These words were spoken to persuade by showing the fruit of actions. To illustrate that due to ignorance, one craves happiness for oneself but actually experiences unwanted fruits, it was said, "For the sake of wanting happiness for oneself," and so on. In the presence of the venerable Sariputra in Rajagriha, a preta came and said, "Venerable one, I was formerly a merchant in Rajagriha, and due to miserliness and pride of caste, and acting in the way of pretas, I was born as a preta. If my relatives could be induced to offer food to the sangha of monks including the Buddha, that would be excellent." Thus, he spoke extensively, and accordingly, five verses were spoken. Others say that when Sariputra and Maudgalyayana went to Avici hell and saw Devadatta's body with countless yojanas, they said, "Bhagavan, are you free from illness?" It is said that he became very distressed upon seeing this, and that is why these words were spoken. "Laughing" means having a smiling face. "Having done sinful deeds" means universally experiencing the actions of unwanted fruits. Why is this said? Because it was said, "For the sake of wanting happiness for oneself." Related to this is the meaning of saying that a fool seeks happiness in his own body. Others say that they do not want such happiness. It was said, "Weeping, ripening," etc., because "For the sake of wanting happiness for oneself, having done sinful deeds, one is born in a bad rebirth, weeping and experiencing unwanted fruits, because the ripening is the nature of suffering." "Sinful action" refers to the accumulated sin, and its fruit is also the way in which it is accumulated or experienced, that is itself. Because sin is accumulated, one will certainly experience its fruit. As it is said, "If someone consciously does and accumulates karma, I do not say that he will not truly experience the ripening." Consciously accumulating sin, and completely accomplishing both, are faults without regret. Just like that sinful

If asked whether it is determined according to karma, it is said: Like this, the so-called "certainly sinful action" starts from a hungry ghost weakened by thirst in the king's garden. The so-called "certainly" refers to an action that is entirely sinful. The so-called "immediately" means changing quickly at that very moment and not changing in nature, meaning that it does not mature at the moment of creation. Because the experience is invisible in the visible nature of all actions. To show an example of a similar dharma, it is like milk, for example, milk does not turn into yogurt at that moment, but it will turn into yogurt at a later time. Or, an example of a dissimilar dharma is that the so-called "immediately" refers to a type of grass called "Sadtya", if it is put in milk, it will turn into yogurt as soon as it is put in, but sinful actions are not like that. It burns children. It means that when sinful actions mature, they cause great harm and follow the person who commits the sin. Like a fire covered with ashes, for example, a fire covered with ashes, just as a child slowly stretching out his feet to walk will be burned. This is to show the thing itself in another way, that is, with "sinful action immediately certainly" and so on. The so-called "cutting" means cutting and dividing into pieces, meaning exhausting. If asked what it is like, an example of a dissimilar dharma is shown. For example, a very sharp weapon can cut with just a touch. Sinful actions are not like that. If it is said that if it does not cut immediately, will it be the same later? The answer is: "It will appear in the next world." It means that in the next world, whoever commits a sin, in whatever place he is born, when he is born there he will know, because he suffers because he has committed a sin. Because in that next world, one will experience the extremely painful result of the sinful actions committed here, and unpleasant suffering will arise. Even if it is a sinful action generated from one's own body, it destroys its own place like fire.
