It is so. After praising the first verse, in order to praise the second, it says "By what manifestation," and so on. That which makes one happy by speaking sweetly is that which manifests happiness, and is called sweet speech. Therefore, it says that very thing, "Who is delighted by this word," that is, whoever hears it is also manifestly delighted and pleased, and by listening to this, joy and pleasure will arise. Alternatively, the previous verse showed the meaning to be pleasant, while this shows the words to be pleasant. In order to distinguish what is called "manifestly delighted," it says, "What is it that makes the wise attached?" By what words is there an attachment-free union, and the realizations are not at all confused, yet it makes one happy. Or again, all the subtle details are clear and distinct, that is a sacred and beautiful word. The saying, "Yes, that word is cherished and used by the noble ones," is like saying, "Since the speech of gentle and gentle words arises truly and depends on me, who among courageous beings would speak harsh words?" The third praise is, "The word of truth is nectar," which says that speaking without perversion is said to be the word of nectar, and by abiding in it, one attains nirvana. Alternatively, nectar is enjoyed by the gods, because truth itself is a very good taste, as it says in the scriptures, and therefore it satisfies the wise and increases their special qualities and experiences, like the nectar of the gods. The word of truth is supreme, it is superior to all, because it is superior to all meanings. Or, language is the jewel on the crown, because it is a garland of flowers, extremely pleasing, and well-established. With these words, one should tell the stories of those who have perfectly crossed over, and so on. Why is it supreme? Here the cause is stated, saying the word "truth," because the word of truth is well-established in meaning, and the holy ones say that it arises from that, in order to accomplish the needs of this world.

It is also very abiding in the Dharma, because it is for the purpose of doing the benefit of the next world. Or, abiding in meaning is the benefit of worldly people. Abiding in the Dharma is the benefit beyond the world, and so on. Touching the reality of holy objects, that is, all the wise ones, and the Shravakas who practice its teachings. What is said is explanation. Starting from the four-line verse, such as "What is the word spoken by the Buddha?" etc., it is explained that all the wise ones are diligent in the benefit of others with great compassion, and the special mind symbolized by discipline is the Buddha. What is slightly explained by the Buddha Bhagavan is the twelve parts of scripture. How did the Buddha Bhagavan speak? He said, it is the truth, that is, fearlessness, because it is the cause of manifest increase. Going to Nirvana is to attain liberation, because it is certain to accomplish good deeds. Since there is no fault in things, there is never any fault in thought here. Because there is no fault in thought, for the benefit of others, the meaning of those words spoken by the Bhagavan is to abandon all suffering, so it is said to pacify all the suffering of all sentient beings. That word is unsurpassed. The so-called "that word is unsurpassed" means that that word is unparalleled. The collection of words, that is, the explanation of the eighth chapter is completed. In order to mainly clarify the way of action from the three aggregates of discipline, etc., the aggregate of karma is explained after that. Or, that aggregate just explained is to explain the words of truth, etc., and this aggregate is to say the words of lying, etc. Or, in order to explain the action that is more special than words, because by the power of the Buddha's teachings, sentient beings can be liberated from samsara. Therefore, this is the most special action, so wanting to start explaining it, he said: "One Dharma" and so on. The venerable Rahula lived in the hermitage of Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir, Bihar), and the Bhagavan went there to subdue him. He

Seeing the Blessed One arriving from afar, they prepared a seat, washed his feet, and placed a footstool to one side. They went forth to greet him and carried his robes and bowl. After a while, the Blessed One washed his own feet and left a little water remaining in the water vessel. He then said to the venerable Rāhula, "Do not discard this little bit of water." He replied, "So be it, Blessed One." Thus, with this little bit, I will speak to you, Rāhula, about the Dharma of a deceitful ascetic. Whoever knowingly speaks falsehoods, is without shame, without scruples, without remorse, has also abandoned that. Likewise, I say this is the Dharma of a deceitful ascetic. He spoke two verses using the example of Hasti Śunḍātyāga. One Dharma is the principal meaning, because the word 'one' is the supreme syllable. The word 'Dharma' is also a synonym for meaning, just as knowing that the king's friend resides in this city is principal. Therefore, the word of truth here is Dharma. Because it is held, it is great. Since it is both one and Dharma, it is combined and called 'one Dharma.' Transgressing that is falling away, it is a person who has abandoned what is called truth. How is this? It is said: speaking falsehoods, falsehood is the opposite, speaking is words. Whoever always speaks falsehoods is not praised by the noble ones, and has transgressed the Dharma of truth. Just as enjoying the poison Hālāhala takes life. 'Having a body' means sentient beings. 'Destroying the next world' means completely abandoning the happy realms. Here, the word 'next world' is praised, because the word 'Dharma' says that going and giving happiness is Dharma. Abandoning that is abandoning its result. There is no evil that is not done. It means that he has abandoned truth and completely embraced falsehood, accumulating sins, and gradually severing the roots of virtue. That is what the sentient being mentioned earlier should not do, and should not act wickedly.
