I am good at restraint, and I like to be alone in peace. The Buddha said that a contented person is a monk. A monk is full of joy in the Dharma, delights in the Dharma, keeps the Dharma in mind, and does not retreat from the Dharma. After a monk enters an empty room, he looks inward. If he can see the dharmas well, he will have the joy of the gods. If one can understand the arising and ceasing of the five aggregates well, then he can obtain joy and satisfaction. A monk, through many joys, can obtain the cessation of suffering. Just as a rocky mountain is not shaken by the wind, so too, a monk's greed is completely extinguished and unmoving. Just as a rocky mountain is not shaken by the wind, so too, a monk's hatred is completely extinguished and unmoving. Just as a rocky mountain is not shaken by the wind, so too, a monk's ignorance is completely extinguished and unmoving. Just as a rocky mountain is not shaken by the wind, so too, a monk's pride is completely extinguished and unmoving. Just as a rocky mountain is not shaken by the wind, so too, a monk's attachment is completely extinguished and unmoving. Just as a rocky mountain is not shaken by the wind, so too, a monk's craving is completely extinguished and unmoving. One who has no attachment to anything, who possesses nothing, and who is not confused even when he has nothing, is called a monk. Merely relying on begging from others, how can one be considered a monk? How can one who clings to worldly dharmas be considered a monk? If someone completely abandons good and evil, possesses pure conduct, and practices alone, away from the group, that is called a monk. If a monk abides in loving-kindness and delights in the Buddha's teachings, he will attain the state of peace that one never tires of seeing. If a monk abides in loving-kindness and delights in the Buddha's teachings, he will attain the state of peace, the quiescence of all activities. If a monk abides in loving-kindness and delights in the Buddha's teachings, he will gradually realize the cessation of all defilements.

There. A monk who dwells in loving-kindness, rejoices greatly in the Buddha's teachings, and delivers himself from evil destinies, like an elephant from a mud swamp. A monk who dwells in loving-kindness, rejoices greatly in the Buddha's teachings, shakes off all sinful dharmas, like the wind blowing leaves from a tree. A monk who dwells in loving-kindness, rejoices greatly in the Buddha's teachings, and because he is near to Nirvana, he will never decline. With a joyful mind and a good heart, suppressing both joy and sorrow, a monk with much joy will attain the exhaustion of suffering. With a peaceful body, peaceful speech, and a peaceful mind, well-composed, having abandoned worldly affairs, that monk is said to be near peace. Without concentration, there is no wisdom; without wisdom, there is no concentration. He who possesses both wisdom and concentration is said to be a true monk. Therefore, the wise should engage in concentration and wisdom. Likewise, this is the first task for a wise monk. Being content, guarding the senses, strictly adhering to the Pratimoksha, knowing moderation in food, dwelling in secluded places, practicing yoga on the higher mind, this is the teaching of the Buddhas. He who has never committed evil deeds in body, speech, or mind is a monk with good morality and a mind of shame. He who has well cultivated the seven factors of perfect enlightenment is called a monk of equanimity and good qualities. Here, whoever knows well the exhaustion of his own suffering, is virtuous and possesses wisdom, is called a monk without outflows. If one has not attained the exhaustion of outflows, but merely holds pure precepts, or has heard much, or dwells in solitary places, even if one has attained Samadhi, one is not a decisive monk. These worldly people, clinging to the aggregates as self, constantly give rise to sorrow. The bliss of perfect enlightenment is manifested by the noble ones. As one thinks, so it changes. This is a changing world, attached to existence and delighting in existence. Attached to existence, delighting in existence, taking great delight in existence itself, whatever is delightful
