Injuring others, others also injure him. Striking others, one receives blows. Holding grudges, one sees those who hold grudges. Likewise, reviling others, one is reviled. To one who is angry, anger arises. This is the way of other childish ascetics. Those who are not skilled in the holy Dharma, with their short lives, also harbor resentment. Thinking that this is superior, speaking separately and agreeing with each other. At this time of division in the Sangha, why do you not abandon your powerless mind? Cutting bones and killing lives, plundering horses, cattle, and wealth, and destroying lands, are like measuring and dividing afterwards. If you understand this Dharma, which the wise have examined and spoken, which shows the realm of practice, why do you not change? You are an unwise person, like a bird striving in vain. Because others do not understand, I strive in this. Here, whoever is wise, pacifies with gentle words. They speak ill of me, they revile me, I am defeated, I am defeated, they say. Whoever holds this in their mind, their hatred will never be pacified. They speak ill of me, they revile me, I am defeated, I am defeated, they say. Whoever does not hold this in their mind, their hatred will be pacified. Here, hatred is never pacified by hatred. Only through patience is hatred pacified. This is the nature of Dharma. Hatred is never pacified by hatred. Hatred is pacified by those without hatred. Blood feud harms embodied beings. Therefore, the wise should not harbor hatred. If one finds a friend who is steadfast, virtuous, and practices together, then, with mindfulness and a joyful mind, completely subdue all afflictions and associate with them. If one does not find a friend who is steadfast, virtuous, and practices together, then, like a king who has abandoned a vast land, one should practice alone and not commit evil deeds. If a good friend who acts in accordance with me is not found, since a child cannot be a friend, one should firmly practice alone. Since a child cannot be a friend, it is easy to practice alone. Like the elephant of Ma Tang Monastery, one should abandon worries and practice alone. The chapter on anger, the fourteenth.

As taught by the Buddha, whoever remembers breathing in and out, perfectly and completely cultivates it well, gradually becomes completely purified, like the sun and moon free from clouds, shines brightly in this world. Standing, sitting, and likewise lying down, the body and mind are also settled, when a monk settles that mindfulness well, the differences between before and after can be obtained. If the differences between before and after are obtained, the Lord of Death, Yama, will not even see them. Having placed mindfulness of the body closely, the six sources of contact are restrained, whoever constantly maintains equanimity, that self realizes Nirvana. Whoever constantly in all ways, places mindfulness of the body closely, is without self and without clinging to self, does not become self and does not cling to self. Thus, a monk quickly maintaining equanimity, will overcome the desires for objects. Whoever with mindfulness and awareness maintains equanimity, with joy and great joy from time to time, practices this Dharma with diligence, it is said that they will overcome birth and old age. Therefore, one should always diligently strive, a wise monk with mindfulness and diligence, having abandoned union in all births, they will attain Nirvana in this. Listen to me, you diligent ones who awaken those who are asleep, sleep makes diligence easy, there is no fear for the diligent. The diligent should strive, day and night following and practicing, with increasing desire for immortality, all defilements will be exhausted. Whoever day and night constantly, remembers the Buddhas, whoever takes refuge in the Buddhas, those are the gains of humans. Whoever day and night constantly, remembers the Dharmas, whoever takes refuge in the Dharmas, those are the gains of humans. Whoever day and night constantly, remembers the Sangha, whoever takes refuge in the Sangha, those are the gains of humans. Whoever day and night constantly, remembers the Buddhas, those disciples of Gautama, are well awakened and awakened. Whoever day and night constantly, remembers the Dharmas, Go
