Doubt arises. Then, with a pure mind, one sees what is impure, hears of wrong paths, and with wrong thoughts, wrong views arise, thinking there is no giving, no sacrifice, and so on. Then, from wrong views, the view of the aggregates arises, and thus one clings to the five aggregates as self, thinking they can eliminate suffering. From this, the view of extremes arises, because one clings to the two extremes of self as either annihilation or permanence. From clinging to extremes, the holding of precepts and asceticism as supreme arises. Whoever clings to extremes believes in its purity. From this, the holding of views as supreme also arises. Whoever believes in its purity holds it as supreme. After that, attachment arises to one's own views. Also, with that view, arrogance arises, and hatred arises towards the views of others, or towards the views that one previously held in one's own continuum but later abandoned. The order of these is like that. Each affliction arises from three causes: if subtle latent tendencies are not abandoned, improper attention is given, and an object is present, then from the power of these causes, conditions, and combinations, afflictions arise. These cause the body and mind continuum to be afflicted, so they are called afflictions. Whatever are afflictions are also near afflictions. Whatever are different from those, belonging to mental factors, belonging to the nature of afflictions, included in the aggregate of formations, those are near afflictions. What are those? Illusion, pride, harm, excessive pride, resentment, deceit, and so on, many kinds of phenomena that arise from the continuum. Among these, illusion is deceiving others. Pride is attachment to one's own qualities such as physical form, beauty, lineage, discipline, and extensive learning, not considering others, the mind completely immersed in it. Harm is striking with hands, feet, and sticks, and harming others with harsh words. Excessive pride is possessing many impure objects, therefore not accepting reasonable teachings. Resentment is always harboring resentment.

It is the cause of increasing things. Deceit is a mind that is not upright. By its power, it is transmitted from one place to another, and introduced into a detour, so that it cannot be clearly understood. Among them, hypocrisy and arrogance are both similar causes of greed, so they follow greed. For the kinds of greed, it is called the different name of dependence. Holding grudges and harming are following anger. Great time is the cause of the same kind as arrogance. Deceit is the cause of the same kind as wrong view. So, what is dishonesty like? As the verse says: It is the view of the wicked. There are ten kinds of pervasive entanglement, namely: lethargy, sleep, agitation, regret, jealousy, stinginess, shamelessness, impudence, anger and concealment. Among them, lethargy is the body and mind are not suitable for work, and is the different name of withering. Sleep is that the body and mind cannot support, and the mind contracts, which is also a trouble, so it is pervasive entanglement. Agitation is that the mind is not quiet. The thing that is done badly is regret. Here, taking it as the object, the dharma born from the mind is called regret, which is the different name of heart worry. The name of the fruit is falsely established on the cause, just as the dharma that takes impurity as the object is called impurity. In the world, the place is also used to indicate the place, just like saying that the whole village has come. This is also a trouble, and it is pervasive entanglement. The nature of jealousy and stinginess has already been said. Shamelessness is disrespect for merits and those who have merits, and is the antidote to respect. Impudence is not afraid of sin. Sin is whatever is condemned by the saints, and is the cause of falling into evil destinies. Anger does not refer to hatred and harm, but to harm both sentient and non-sentient beings. Concealment is hiding with sins. Pervasively entangled and dwelling with the mind, so they are the pervasive entanglers. Among them, lethargy, sleep and impudence are the causes of the same kind as ignorance. Regret is born from the cause of doubt. Shamelessness and agitation
