The one hundred and eight things that are the unmixed ignorance of the third existence are the stream of ignorance. Because virtuous deeds drive sentient beings, it is a river, like a river of water. The combinations are also similar to this principle. To be precise, sentient beings driven by the river are combined in the realms, destinies, birthplaces, and lands, so it is a combination, meaning to be combined with various sufferings. There are four types of grasping: desire grasping, view grasping, moral discipline and asceticism grasping, and self-assertion grasping. Among them, adding ignorance on top of the stream of desire, thirty-four things are desire grasping, namely, desire, anger, pride, twenty kinds of ignorance, four kinds of doubt, and ten kinds of universal entanglements. Adding ignorance on top of the stream of existence, forty things are self-assertion grasping, namely, desire and pride born from the two realms, thirty kinds of ignorance, eight kinds of doubt, excitement, and lethargy. Apart from holding precepts and asceticism, the thirty things of view of the third realm are view grasping. The six things of holding precepts and asceticism are moral discipline and asceticism grasping. This is because they are enemies of the path and deceive both householders and renunciants, so they are explained separately from the views. For example, householders are deceived by this, not eating, excreting in the toilet, jumping off cliffs, etc., thinking they can ascend to heaven. Renunciants completely abandon pleasant objects and enter this Dharma, and also realize purity through the merit of diligent practice. The meaning of grasping is trees, because it can generate the continuation of the fire of karma. For example, the roots of trees cause fire to burn, and similarly, the roots of the tree of afflictions cause the fire of karma to burn. Or it means entanglement, like a silkworm entangling itself. There are four kinds of knots: the knot of greed in the body, the knot of malice in the body, the knot of holding precepts and asceticism in the body, and thinking that this is true.

Clinging to and considering as supreme the self is the knot of the body. Among these, the desire, suffering, etc., belonging to the desire realm, the five to be abandoned by seeing, and the five to be abandoned by cultivation are the first. The five of anger are the second. Considering discipline and asceticism as supreme, the six things are the third. Considering views as supreme, the twelve things are the fourth. These four are twenty-eight things. Because it binds the body in various different ways, it is called a knot, which is a synonym for binding and tying. Obscurations are five, namely, desire for desire, malice, drowsiness, sleep, excitement, regret, and doubt. The craving, suffering, etc., that occur in desire, the five to be abandoned by seeing, and the five to be abandoned by cultivation are the first. The five of anger are the second. Drowsiness and sleep combined into one are the third, and their characteristics have been described. Excitement and regret combined into one are the fourth, and their characteristics have also been described. Doubt that occurs in desire is the fifth. Thus, in general, there are eighteen things. Because they obscure the noble path, places, detachment from desire, and the roots of virtue corresponding to them, they are called obscurations, which are synonyms for obstruction. After that, the realms, destinies, birthplaces, and differences of lands will be described, that is, what are the realms, what are the destinies, birthplaces, and lands. Among these, there are three realms, namely, the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. In the desire realm, there are twenty places. There are eight great hells of sentient beings, namely: Reviving, Black Line, Crushing, Howling, Great Howling, Burning, Very Burning, and Uninterrupted. Animals, hungry ghosts, and the four continents, namely: Jambudvipa (Southern Jambudvipa), Eastern Videha, Western Godaniya, and Northern Kuru. There are six desire realm heavens, namely: the Heaven of the Four Great Kings, the Thirty-three Heavens, the Yama Heaven, the Tushita Heaven, the Nirmanarati Heaven, and the Paranirmitavasavartin Heaven. Above that is the form realm, which has sixteen places. Among these, the first dhyana has two places.
