Equality and the roots of virtue, etc., the roots of non-virtue, etc., all combinations, etc., bonds, etc., subtle increases, etc., near afflictions, etc., all entanglements and abidings, etc., outflows, etc., rivers, etc., combinations, etc., grasping, etc., accumulations, etc., obscurations, etc., knowledge and forbearance, etc. Therein, the place and, the object and, the aspect and time and the nature of things being the same, by five similarities, it is associated with the mind, therefore it is called the associated ones. The opposite is the non-associated ones, such as: attainment and non-attainment, the samadhi of non-perception and, the samadhi of cessation and, non-perception and, the life faculty and, commonality and, birth and aging and, abiding and impermanence itself, and the aggregates of names, etc., the aggregates of words, etc., the aggregates of letters, etc., these two combined are called the aggregate of formations. Therefore, the great sage also said, the aggregate of formations is like a piece of wood on water. Therein, volition is the mind manifestly forming, it is the action of the mind, that is, the meaning of the mind universally moving. It also has three aspects due to the distinction of virtue, non-virtue, and non-indication. Contact is the mind touching the object arising from the object, sense faculty, and consciousness, it is the characteristic of the dharma arising from the mind that makes it live. It also has three aspects due to experiencing pleasure and so on. Attention is the activity of the mind, that is, the mind focusing on objects, it is the meaning of remembering past experiences and so on called attention. It also has three types, namely, the learner, the non-learner, and the neither learner nor non-learner. Among them, that which arises from the continuum of the seven noble individuals, without defilement, is the learner. That which arises from the continuum of the Arhat is the non-learner. That which has outflows is neither learner nor non-learner. Desire is the limb of diligence that wants to do, that is, it arises from the thought of doing this. Faith is the mind's faith in objects, that is, not being satiated with objects.

What is the meaning of the word "Umba"? Faith is a pure mind, a state of manifest belief in the Three Jewels and the relationship of cause and effect. It is a dharma that removes the impurities of the mind. For example, if a water-purifying jewel is placed in a lake, it removes all the mud and impurities, making the water clear. Similarly, the jewel of faith arises from the lake of the mind and removes all the impurities of the mind, causing one to believe in the enlightenment of the Buddhas, the well-spoken Dharma, and the virtuous conduct of the Sangha. It also causes one to regard everything else as erroneous, thereby generating firm faith in the law of dependent origination. Diligence is the joy of generating and abandoning virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas, and it is the cause of the mind emerging from the mire of samsara. Mindfulness is the manifestation of the mind, a synonym for not forgetting what has been done, what is to be done, and what is being done. Samadhi is the one-pointedness of mind, the mind like a monkey focusing on a single object. For example, if a snake is put into a bamboo tube, it will not bend. Similarly, if the mind is put into the bamboo tube of samadhi, it walks straight, according to the Vaibhashikas. Wisdom is the thorough discernment of dharmas, the collection and equalization of those eight dharmas, and the understanding of the characteristics of cause, condition, result, self, and generality as they are. Investigation is the characteristic of a coarse mind. On the other hand, it can also be called "investigation." If it is generated by the wind of attention, then the entering coarse five aggregates of consciousness are the dharma of the cause of entering. Analysis is the characteristic of a subtle mind, a dharma that accords with the entering of mind consciousness. Negligence is not cultivating virtuous dharmas, meaning not entering. Non-negligence is cultivating virtuous dharmas, a dharma that retreats from negligence. Disgust is contemplating the faults of samsara, thereby separating from desire, a dharma corresponding to aversion, any dharma that arises in the mind, if it arises, will

And also, to generate weariness with samsara, and with what is it associated that weariness arises, that is called attention. Supreme joy is satisfaction and extreme joy, it is the antidote to what causes harm to the virtuous mind. Having obtained it, to be content with it, what is that? That is supreme joy. Extreme pliancy is the very workability of the mind. Non-harming is the very good heart that is contrary to being delighted in harming others, by its power, one does not inflict any harm on others. Knowing shame is relying on reason, arising from the power of self and dharma, it is the power of the mind that is contrary to the similar cause of craving, by its power, one abides with respect towards qualities and those who possess qualities. Having embarrassment is prioritizing the habituation to qualities, it is the enemy of the similar cause of ignorance, therefore it reproaches evil dharmas, if one possesses it, one sees faults as fearful. Equanimity is eliminating what is unreasonable, and causing one to enter into what is reasonable, that is called equanimity. Because one possesses it, the mind neither eliminates what is unreasonable, nor does it enter into what is reasonable, but abides in equality with the reasoning that holds the balance. The roots of virtue are three, namely non-attachment, non-hatred, and non-ignorance. Among these, non-attachment is the antidote to attachment. Non-hatred is the dharma that is contrary to anger. Non-ignorance is the nature of wisdom, it is the dharma that is contrary to unknowing. These are virtuous in themselves, and also become the root of other virtues, therefore they are called the roots of virtue. Because they accomplish the desirable existence and the sprout of liberation, therefore the meaning of happiness is the meaning of virtue. Or, because it accomplishes a beautiful form, it is the meaning of being well-trained, like a well-trained painter. The roots of non-virtue are three, which are the opposite aspects of those themselves, namely attachment, hatred, and ignorance. Among these, the five types of existence belonging to the desire realm are attachment. The five types of anger are hatred. Apart from the ignorance associated with the view of the perishable aggregate and the view of extremes, the other thirty-six types of ignorance belonging to the desire realm
