To the three formless realms. Knowing the minds of others is in all four dhyanas. Among the remaining, whatever is the aspect of Dharma-knowledge is in the six grounds. Whatever is the aspect of subsequent-realization knowledge is in the nine grounds. Conventional knowledge is in all grounds. There are eight kinds of forbearance, namely, the forbearance of Dharma-knowledge of suffering, the forbearance of subsequent-realization knowledge of suffering, the forbearance of Dharma-knowledge of origin, the forbearance of subsequent-realization knowledge of origin, the forbearance of Dharma-knowledge of cessation, the forbearance of subsequent-realization knowledge of cessation, the forbearance of Dharma-knowledge of the path, and the forbearance of subsequent-realization knowledge of the path. This is the distinction of wisdom that generates definite knowledge. Because there is forbearance in the four truths, it is called forbearance. These eight aspects are only seeing, not knowledge. The meaning of definite is the meaning of knowledge. Those who have entered into complete searching are also forbearance. Thus, after the forbearance of Dharma-knowledge of suffering arises, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing suffering, the ten acquisitions belonging to the desire realm, cease from the moment of acquisition. Dharma-knowledge also arises from the moment of the acquisition of their cessation. Forbearance here is the path of immediate proximity. Knowledge is the path of liberation of the path, just as if there were two people, one of whom caught a thief from the house and drove him out, and the other closed the door. After the forbearance of subsequent-realization knowledge of suffering arises, the afflictions belonging to the form and formless realms, the eighteen acquisitions to be abandoned by seeing suffering, cease from the moment of acquisition. Subsequent-realization knowledge also arises from the moment of the acquisition of their cessation. These four minds will realize the truth of suffering of the three realms. Just as the truth of suffering is realized by the four minds, so also the truths of origin, cessation, and path should be understood by four minds each. With sixteen minds, eighty-eight latent tendencies are abandoned, the four truths are realized, and the fruit of stream-entry will also be obtained. Meditat

Thus, ten things must be abandoned: four belonging to the desire realm, three belonging to the form realm, and three belonging to the formless realm. Among these, first, the desire, anger, pride, and ignorance belonging to the desire realm are collected like a clump of reeds and then divided into nine levels: great of the great, medium of the great, small of the great, great of the medium, medium of the medium, small of the medium, great of the small, medium of the small, and small of the small. The antidotes to these, the path of immediate cessation and the path of liberation, should also be understood as nine kinds of wisdom in the same way. Among these, the antidote to the great of the great in the form of faults is the small of the small in the form of the noble path; likewise, the antidote to the small of the small in the form of faults extends up to the great of the great. Among these, if six forms of afflictions are abandoned, one becomes a once-returner; if all nine are abandoned, one becomes a non-returner. Just as the four afflictions belonging to the desire realm have nine forms, their antidotes, the path of immediate cessation and the path of liberation, will also become nine forms. Similarly, each fault also has nine forms, and their antidotes should be understood in the same way. Thus, afflictions are gradually abandoned and one abides, and if one abandons the small of the small in the form of faults of the peak of existence, one becomes an Arhat. Those who abide on the path between the four fruits are called stream-enterers, and those who abide on the path on this side of any fruit are those who have entered that fruit. Therefore, they are the eight noble persons: four are stream-enterers, and four are those who abide in the fruit. For example, the stream-enterer for the sake of realizing the fruit of stream-entry, the stream-enterer for the sake of realizing the fruit of stream-entry and once-returning, the once-returner, the stream-enterer for the sake of realizing the fruit of non-returning, the non-returner, the stream-enterer for the sake of realizing the fruit of Arhatship, and the Arhat. It transforms into six kinds of lineage grounds.
