Therefore, this demonstrates that what is said is logical, as it is free from the fault of being endless. What is to be expressed is the collection of names, and so forth. By mentioning the collection of names, and so forth, it completely includes the collection of words and the collection of letters. Those that do not possess also understand the meaning. Why is it that sound does not understand meaning? Because it does not have the ability. If the syllable of a letter or the sound of a completely divided word could understand meaning, for example, the sound of the word "གཽ" (Tibetan, gau, cow) has nine meanings, namely word, direction, land, ray, vajra, eye, livestock, heaven, and water, these nine meanings. The sound of the word "གཽ" (Tibetan, gau, cow) is understood by the wise. Therefore, the syllable of a letter does not understand meaning, because the syllables of letters each have no meaning, and they do not occur simultaneously. The sound of a completely divided word is also not, because other word sounds will appear in it, and other sounds will appear in it, which will become endless. Just as a word can express a name, can it also express meaning? And sounds are not collections, and so forth. Therefore, whoever hears a single syllable of a letter will understand that meaning. This will not become a fault, because the abilities of phenomena appear distinctly. For example, an arrow shaft will not grow from a horn, and sandalwood will not grow from an arrow shaft. If it is said that because there is no collection, whoever hears a single syllable will understand that meaning, then the sound being able to understand meaning, these two are the same. Therefore, what is able to understand is done by becoming meaning. Among them, what are names, words, and letters. Dependent on speech to arise, the sound of the nature of speech is speech. Speech depends on speech to arise, those that depend on speech to arise are those that depend on speech to arise. Dependence is attachment. This shows that if speech exists, these will arise. Just like knowing the way of meaning, for example, the place of the nature of meaning, meaning is form and so forth, which is the object. Nature is self-nature, which is a synonym for essence. The nature of meaning
