The Extensive Commentary on Entering the Abhidharma, Called "A Compendium of Essential Points." The Extensive Commentary on Entering the Abhidharma, Called "A Compendium of Essential Points." In Indian language: Sārasamuccaya nāma Abhidharma avatāra ṭīkā. In Tibetan language: The Extensive Commentary on Entering the Abhidharma, Called "A Compendium of Essential Points." Volume One. Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī. The connection and purpose of the Abhidharma will be stated. What is the connection for which this treatise is composed? What is the purpose of this composition? That will be stated. The connection of this is shown from the treatise itself. As it is said, wise people are obstructed by immediate tasks and are also afraid of the loss of what has not been obtained. Therefore, this treatise is composed with this connection. The connection has been explained. The purpose is so that beings with weak wisdom and untamed minds may enter the Abhidharma through a small and clear collection of words. The act of homage is also necessary, as it becomes a cause for pacifying obstacles and for generating respect. That which investigates where it abides, arises, and ceases is the treatise. A part of that is the commentary, which is said to be "the darkness of the heart" and so forth. In that, mind and mental factors are generally referred to as "heart," but since all mental factors abide in the mind, the abiders are not the main thing, but the place of abiding is the main thing, so the mind itself is designated as "heart." Because it exists in it, it is "of the heart." What is that? Therefore it is said: it is called "darkness." In that, "darkness" refers to ignorance. How is "darkness" referred to as ignorance? Because they have similar properties. For example, darkness hinders seeing things without error. Ignorance is also the same, and because it has similar properties to that, it is called that. What kind of "darkness" is it? Therefore it is said: it is called "the root of bad destinies." Because it goes to bad destinies, it is a "bad destiny." Bad destinies are sentient beings in hells, hungry ghosts, and animals, and so on. Because it produces undesirable actions and obstructs the path of the noble ones, it is suffering. Of those

The root is the agent, a synonym for being the cause. Among these, whatever goes is going badly, a synonym for going badly from virtuous dharmas. What is called virtue here refers to the noble path and cessation through individual examination. These are both virtuous and dharmas, so they are virtuous dharmas. For this, sentient beings fall into evil destinies such as hell, becoming the cause of suffering, so this is the root of evil destinies. This shows that it is similar to the darkness outside, just like kicking thorns and so on, it is the root of going badly. Speech itself is light, so it is the light of speech. Because of the difference in the power to uproot the darkness of ignorance, it is similar to light, so it is light. What is called speech is what comprehends the differences related to things, qualities, time, and connections. This is the transformation of meaning from sound, as it is said, words are without limbs and can make meaning understood. Sound is an accumulation of minute particles, so it is said that it should not be without limbs, like this. What is called the light of speech is the agent. What is called who is the characteristic of the author, that is, by whom the light of speech is made, those who destroy and cut off the darkness. Whose language is it? It is of gods and humans. What is called a god refers to the immortal, because most of them do not die from other causes of harm, so saying immortal is not truly immortal, because the Buddha said that all conditioned phenomena are impermanent. This shows that gods and humans are able to enter the four noble truths. This half verse praises the Bhagavan's perfect accomplishment of benefiting others. Because the latter half verse shows the perfection of benefiting oneself. Called "Omniscient, Immaculate Wheel." Because the Bhagavan is omniscient because he completely knows all aspects of all knowable things. The object of the omniscient is the omniscient itself. Moreover, because it is free from the defilements of afflictions along with their habitual tendencies, it is immaculate. Who with all
