The cause of an unpacified mind is the fullness caused by eating meat and other fatty foods. The dharma that, when associated with something, is contrary to a pacified mind is agitation. The object of having done something bad is regret. The term "regret" means having done something bad, which is a synonym for bad deeds. Here, the dharma arising from the mind with that as its object is called regret, which means having committed misdeeds such as killing, and not having done good deeds such as giving, whatever causes remorse in the mind is virtuous regret. Whatever good deeds such as giving have been done, and whatever causes remorse in the mind for not having done good deeds such as killing enemies, that is afflicted regret. How is regret expressed as a sound of remorse in the mind? Therefore, it is said that this is establishing the result on the cause. The result is remorse in the mind, and the cause is regret. In the world, a place also indicates a place, like the place of remorse in the mind is regret. Not fearing faults means having no aversion to the universal occurrence of misdeeds, which is a synonym. Apart from hatred and harm, for those, universally tormented by sentient and non-sentient objects, thinking, "This fellow did this to me, did unfavorable things," and accompanied by contemplation and complete abandonment, that mental disturbance is anger. The so-called "not concealing faults" means that the faults that should be spoken of are good, because they should be spoken of. What should not be spoken of is faults, which means entering the wrong path, including discipline, rituals, livelihood, and views. The cause of hiding and concealing these is concealment, which means hiding sins inside and pretending to be pure on the outside, which is a synonym. The movement of mental phenomena is subtle, and what does "subtle" mean? It is difficult to distinguish differences, and it is impossible to determine one's own nature, which is a synonym. Movement is continuous flow, which is extreme movement. The so-called "that" is movement. Continuous flow is also a distinction.

Unable to comprehend, if unable to comprehend, what need is there to even mention moments? Now, the measure of a moment is to be spoken. When the first of sixty-five rootlets of a lotus root, placed side by side, breaks, that is called a moment. Therefore, a strong person snaps his fingers, and sixty-five moments pass. Those who are not skilled in the nature of the Dharma spoken by the Bhagavan, etc. The word Bhagavan has six meanings: power and complete possession, beauty and fame, splendor and wisdom, diligence, possessing these six is why he is called Bhagavan. What did the Bhagavan speak? It is the nature of the Dharma. Those who are skilled in the nature of the Dharma are those who are skilled in the nature of the Dharma spoken by the Bhagavan. The word "is" means "indeed." Indeed, they are skilled in the nature of the Dharma. The result of mind and mental factors is its result. The difference in its result is the distinction. Seeing the difference in its result is seeing the difference in its result, which is the term for seeing its distinction. For example, distraction is singing, anger is speaking harsh words, unpleasant, being deceptive is like deceiving others. In this way, the so-called "other kind" means that mind and mental factors are the existence of other entities. The so-called "faultless" means without fault, which is the term for without doubt. The so-called "realization" means to understand. The Sugata's scriptures, etc. Sugata refers to one who has gone well. Those who do not revere the teachers who expound the Sugata's scriptures are those with deluded wisdom, which is the term for not understanding other kinds, not realizing. The so-called "leakages are three" is to indicate that because of the different intentions of taming, the sutras say that these afflictions are called by different names such as leakages. That is why it is said, "leakages are three." Fifty-four things are the leakages of existence.

If someone asks, why are dullness and agitation, which operate in the formless realm, not mentioned here? The answer here is, because they are not independent. Independence means autonomy. These two are suppressed by other afflictions there, so they are said to be not independent. The root of all outflows is ignorance, so the outflow of ignorance is mentioned separately. Placing means cutting. Outflow means that which arises through it. For those that are not these, but are related to other afflictions, here "those" refers to ignorance related to views. "Other afflictions" refers to those related to desire, etc. Those one hundred and eight things are the eighty-three latent tendencies that are separate from the fifteen unmixed ignorances, and the ignorance that is mixed with those ten universally entangling ones and the unmixed ignorance, these two are the one hundred and eight things. Bonds are also similar to this, referring to desire bonds, existence bonds, view bonds, and ignorance bonds. Or it means entanglement, like a silkworm entangles itself with silk and dies, similarly, these sentient beings are also entangled by their own karma and afflictions, thereby falling into the lower realms. The six things that are considered supreme as discipline and asceticism are divided according to the difference of realms. The twelve things that are considered supreme as views are also the same. There are five obscurations, namely the obscuration of longing for desire, the obscuration of malice, the obscuration of dullness and sleep, the obscuration of agitation and regret, and the obscuration of doubt. Among them, some people think, does it include dullness and agitation and doubt in the three realms? Or is it only related to desire? The answer is, monks, just like this, only these five obscurations can completely lead to the accumulation of non-virtue, this is what the sutra says. Because the sound of non-virtue is mentioned, it refers to activity in desire. Why are dullness and sleep grouped into one, while agitation and regret are said to be one obscuration? The answer is, because their function is the same.
