Like that, running without fear in the realm of the mind, that is conviction. The so-called mind of faith is clear, faith is trust in merits, and the joy that precedes it, therefore it becomes another meaning. Faith is a clear mind. The Three Jewels are the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. The so-called connection with cause and effect is the connection with both cause and effect. Because it has the nature of removing the turbidity of the mind, this metaphor is shown. The enlightenment of the Buddhas is the knowledge of exhaustion and the knowledge of non-arising, as well as the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha, the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the three mindfulnesses, and great compassion. The so-called good practice of the Dharma is the unfailing abandonment of afflictions. As the lord of beings said: What I have explained to you as the path of the Hearers is not necessarily a path to liberation, there is no such place. Practicing correctly is having the discipline that pleases the noble ones. All that is transformed from this is delusion, it is delusion about the nature of dependent arising. And with the certainty of the existence of the Three Jewels and so on, by believing in the reality of their existence, to the state of conviction,

Now, the term 'arising' is explained. Samsara itself is a mire, hence it is the mire of samsara. The mire of samsara is so called because it is difficult to arise from samsara. The mind that sinks there, manifesting, is called 'arising,' which means to produce. That is exertion, because it causes the continuum of various discriminations such as manifestation to remain. Exertion has been explained. 'Mindfulness' is so called because it makes one remember. That is the clarity of mind itself, and the clear object is clarity itself. Forms and so on are to be known, so that meaning is clarity itself. That is also not forgetting what has been done and so on. Why is not forgetting called clarity? Like this, remembering what has been experienced makes it clear, it is the meaning of 'clearly.' Remembering the experienced object, it is considered that mindfulness is influenced by other mindfulness, and mind and mental factors will become the object's entity. Although what has been done, what is to be done, and the object of doing are also remembered, mostly they involve past objects, so showing the past is the object itself. 'Samadhi, one-pointedness of mind' means that because the mind is like a monkey, the monkey is mentioned. It is mentioned as an example because it is known for being wild, but not just because of similarity. In other sutras it is also said, 'Monks, I have not seen a dharma that changes faster than this, that is the mind.' 'One object' means being able to focus on one object, showing that itself is focusing on one object. For example, like an illusion that naturally moves wildly being put into a tube of light, similarly, the mind is also naturally wild, but through the power of samadhi, it abides on one object. Some people think that, monks, the nature of consciousness is pure, but it is defiled by sudden afflictions. If it is said like that, it will become a fault of having a beginning. Because samadhi makes mind and mental factors equal, it means 'abiding on one object.' Therefore, it is said that the mind, like a monkey, focuses on one object. Here, all mind and mental factors are called mind.
