The teacher Sangharakshita further says that it is not said that the coarse and subtle mind itself is the coarse and subtle mind. Then how is it said? The coarse mind is the roughness that exists in the mind. Its essence is the coarse mind itself. The subtle mind is also the same as that, so it is said. Space is not connected to anything. Why? Because there is no connection. Space is not connected to anything because there is nothing to deny or prevent. Therefore, it has no attainment. In what is called "completely abandoning the five branches," the five pervasive bonds corresponding to the lower part will be abandoned and fully understood, namely: the view of the aggregates of existence, the adherence to moral discipline and asceticism, doubt, desire for desire, and aversion. Others say that those corresponding to the lower part have already been abandoned in the previous learning stage, so here only those corresponding to the upper part are taken, namely: desire for form, desire for the formless, agitation, pride, and ignorance. Others say: Because it is the same as the fifth, both the upper part corresponding and the lower part corresponding are taken, just like being skilled in teaching the eight places. So it is said. Attainment is a dharma that, if something exists, will not be wasted even if it has not manifested. My source here is: "Because each attains and is universally possessed." That's it. In the desire realm, the form of good and non-good conduct arises from combination, but it is not obtained from birth. Because it is an unequal holding ground, it is not a future gain, therefore, its attainment did not arise previously. Non-attainment is established by relying on the basis of birth, not by relying on the dharma. Because it contradicts the dharma. The teacher Sangharakshita says that what is called "commonality" is the reason for the connection of body, senses, shape, movement, food, etc., for sentient beings born in the same realm, and is the reason for mutual joy. If someone says, why not admit the commonality of non-sentient beings? Because you have already admitted the realms and birthplaces.

Why don't you accept beings such as grass and mangoes, and the birthplaces of radishes and Mon bean pods? If it is because the Blessed One did not say so, then you should not accept the equal share of non-sentient beings either, because the Blessed One did not say so, they say. What is the reason for the phrase "born in the desire realm"? Therefore, it is said in detail that whoever is born there, just like the actions of being born as gods of the inaudible northerners, the actions of unconscious beings experiencing birth in the desire realm are certain. Those who have entered the state of being definitely not noble, as well as those born in the lower realms and those without consciousness, and those born in the Great Brahma realm, attain cessation that is not examined, because it is a place of view and because it contradicts the noble path. Therefore, even if one is familiar, one cannot attain it without effort. What then? One attains the same time. This is like the Pratimoksha vows, which are attained in all circumstances, because one attains what was never before, one does not attain the past. Therefore, one only attains the very first present time. In the second moment and so on, one also has the past, and what has not arisen is also the present. What has arisen is only the past. As long as one does not give up, it is until one is completely undiminished. Because it is without mind, one does not attain the future, like the divine eye and ear. The teacher Sangharakshita says that one cannot generate it without abandoning the bonds of its ground, one cannot transcend what is to be abandoned by seeing, one cannot generate the absorption of cessation at the peak of existence, and ordinary beings do not transcend it either. Why can't one enter the absorption of cessation in the grounds below the peak of existence? Because that liberation becomes a turning away and a cutting off of the ultimate. That liberation is established by two causes: turning away and cutting off the ultimate of mind. If it exists in the lower grounds, then one will not turn away from all objects, nor will one cut off the ultimate.
