Therefore, only virtuous dharmas can ripen. However, the Heliaka school believes that unpleasant feelings can also be virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral. The cause of never being lost is like saying "being free from attachment," etc. The freedom from attachment attained through both worldly and supramundane paths is firm, meaning it changes from the result and arises from the beginning. The path of seeing exists only in the desire realm, so it does not eat ghost food and possesses the physical sense faculties. If it is said that when entering the certainty of being free from attachment, it is impossible to have unpleasant feelings, therefore it is said "with the four feelings, etc." The remaining ones have both possession and non-possession. Related to these, should any of the male or female faculties be mentioned here? This is a challenging question, but it should not be said, because it is confusing. Sometimes, during the gradual process of dying, even though the faculties have deteriorated, birth still occurs at that time, and one enters certainty. Therefore, if asked: Is there a female who does not possess the female faculty? The answer is: Yes. It means that even though the female faculty has deteriorated, its similar kind has not deteriorated. The male faculty is also the same. In this way, it is unreasonable for a single mind to have both coarse and subtle aspects, because they are contradictory. However, the Venerable Sangharakshita says: Although a single mind focuses on a single object and has the same nature, there is no contradiction because the power and time are different. When the power of conceptualization on the general characteristics is strong, the power of investigation is weak, so the mind becomes coarse. When the power of investigation is strong, the power of conceptualization is weak, so the mind becomes subtle, like hot and cold touches. Here, whichever has the stronger power is like earth. Whichever has the weaker power is like water. Therefore, there is no incongruity in the analogy. Thus, conceptualization and investigation are simultaneous, but the coarse mind is not the same as the subtle mind. As for the difference in grounds, it means that in the desire realm there is only conceptualization, in the peak of existence there is only investigation, and in between there are both. As for the difference in aspects, it means that both are present in all grounds, but they are not only present in the desire realm and the first two dhyanas.
