It is done. Why are these alone the realm of noble beings, and not the realms of other learners? Noble beings do not enter non-noble realms, because the seed does not return. These only enter into virtuous actions, not into non-virtuous actions. Among those who have sown seeds in these, there is no non-returning, therefore these alone are the realms of noble beings. Why do non-returners also have this distinction when their lifespan is exhausted? No, it is not. For example, it is said: 'The noble one whose lifespan is exhausted in the desire realm does not go to another realm.' The noble one whose lifespan is exhausted in the desire realm does not go to another realm, because he attains the fruit of non-returning there and is completely liberated from afflictions. 'He and those born in higher realms do not decline or abandon their faculties.' The noble one whose lifespan is exhausted in the desire realm, and the noble one born in higher realms, do not transfer their faculties, nor do they completely decline in any way. 'Having cultivated meditation, he goes to Akanistha.' What meditation is cultivated first? First, the fourth dhyana is cultivated. That samadhi is suitable for all, because it is immersed in their perfection. The moment of that is accomplished by mixing. When an uncontaminated moment is immediately followed by a contaminated one, or a contaminated one is immediately followed by an uncontaminated one, in this way, by mixing contaminated and uncontaminated moments, cultivation is accomplished. For those who have continuity, as long as they combine two moments, in this way, having cultivated the fourth dhyana, they also cultivate other dhyanas by its power. Why cultivate dhyana? For the sake of birth and abiding, and also for the fear of afflictions. Non-returners with sharp faculties are for the sake of being born in the Pure Abodes, and for the sake of abiding happily in the present life. Those with dull faculties are also for the fear of afflictions. Similarly, Arhats, because they have no birth, abandon birth in the Pure Abodes. Again, why are there only five Pure Abodes?

If so, what is said to be the cultivation of the fourth dhyana with increasing multiplicity? That is because of five aspects. Only the five Pure Abodes are born. The cultivation of increasing multiplicity is five aspects due to the distinctions of small, medium, large, very large, and extremely large. Each of the latter is increased threefold. The intermediate is born from those with defilements. Because of attaining cessation, they do not return. They desire to realize it with the body. Those non-returners who have attained cessation are like those who have passed into nirvana without mind. Because of realizing it with the body, it is called realizing it with the body. When the eight intermediate stages of the peak of existence are exhausted, one enters the state of an Arhat. This is in terms of being called a non-returner. Furthermore, the non-returner, starting from being free from desire from one aspect of the first dhyana, up to the peak of existence, having abandoned the eight intermediate stages, dwells in the state of an Arhat. The ninth uninterrupted path also only enters the state of an Arhat. That is like a vajra. The uninterrupted path destroys all subtle defilements, therefore it is called vajra-like samadhi. Furthermore, what is said to be the ninth aspect of the peak of existence? That is the attainment of cessation and the knowledge of defilements. Because it arises simultaneously with the attainment of the exhaustion of all defilements from the very beginning, it is the knowledge of exhaustion. At that time, that is a non-learner Arhat. Entering the state of an Arhat, when the knowledge of exhaustion arises, one is a non-learner, and because of attaining the fruit of Arhatship, one is an Arhat. Because there is no need to learn for the sake of other fruits, one is a non-learner. In the explanation of the path of cultivation as twofold, transcendent and mundane, then with what does this learner attain freedom from desire from what? With the transcendent from the peak of existence. Not with the mundane. Why? Because there is no mundane above that, and it is not the antidote of one's own ground. Not being an antidote is also because afflictions will increase. Which affliction will increase towards which object, then it is not abandoned by that object. Whatever is the antidote, then for that, affliction
