Why? Because it is not holding ignorance, it is mixed. Ignorance is not holding because it is not manifest in the aspect of not knowing. Therefore, it is mixed. Also, among them, what is the meaning of subtle increase? What is the meaning of near taking? Why are those subtle and subsequent two increasing, and because they are related, they are said to be subtle increase. Among them, the subtle is difficult to understand, so it is subtle in appearance. The subsequent is because it is obtained and related. The increase is through the door of being in accordance with the object and similar. The subsequent is without combination, because it appears again and again. Those are established as outflows, making outflows, holding, adhering, and near taking. Therefore, outflows and so on are the definitive terms of those. Making the establishment of samsara, from the peak of existence to the uninterrupted, leaking from the wound of the six places, therefore they are outflows. Holding is therefore rivers. Adhering is therefore combination. Near taking is therefore those who take near. Those, with the difference of pervasive bondage and so on, are also said to be five kinds. Those subtle increases themselves, with the difference of pervasive bondage, bondage, subtle increase, near afflictions, and pervasive entanglement, are also divided into five kinds and said. Among them, the pervasive bondage is nine kinds, namely, the pervasive bondage of following attachment, anger, pride, ignorance, view, grasping, doubt, jealousy, and stinginess. Also, why are three views separately established as the pervasive bondage of views, and two separately established as the pervasive bondage of grasping? Because the substance and grasping are similar, the two views are other pervasive bondages. The three views are also eighteen substances, and the two views of grasping are also only eighteen substances. Therefore, because the substances are the same, these two are made other pervasive bondages. These two are the nature of grasping, and the rest are not, because they are similar to grasping, these two are also separately established. The object of grasping

And because the attachments are different. Furthermore, why are the bonds of jealousy and stinginess spoken of separately as two bonds, and not other pervasive entanglements? Because both are actually one, due to being unwholesome and independent. Jealousy and stinginess, etc., are spoken of separately as two bonds. For what, the one unwholesome and the independent one, these two, such pervasive entanglements do not exist. Moreover, the Blessed One spoke of five kinds of bonds corresponding to the lower division. Why are there only five kinds? Thus, two do not depart from desire, and three turn back. Desire and malice do not depart from the desire realm. The view of the aggregation of decay, etc., even if transcended, will turn back. Here it is also said, 'Because of being gathered by the door and the root, only three are spoken of.' Even if what should be abandoned by seeing earlier is abandoned, because of the door and the root being gathered, the afflictions are spoken of as three kinds, namely, one kind, two kinds, and four kinds. Their doors are gathered by these three. Furthermore, holding to extreme views is included by the view of the aggregation of decay, and holding to the view of the supreme precepts and asceticism is included. Wrong view is included by doubt, therefore it is said that the root is gathered. Others say: 'Not wanting to go and wrong path, and doubt about the path, these hinder the path to liberation, therefore three are taught.' The view of the aggregation of decay will cause one to fear liberation, therefore one will become unwilling to go. Holding precepts and asceticism as supreme, because it points out that other paths are correct, therefore one will go astray. Doubt will cause one to hesitate about the path, therefore only these three that should be abandoned are taught. Just as the five bonds corresponding to the lower division were spoken of, similarly, there are also five corresponding to the upper division, namely, desire, sleep, excitement, pride, and ignorance, born from the form realm and the formless realm. Because without abandoning these, one cannot transcend the upper realms. The bonds have been spoken of. There are three bonds, namely, desire and...
