All afflictions are entangled, for what are we contemplating? From killing to lying, these are to be abandoned through meditation. Likewise, the desire for destruction, the desire for destruction is also to be abandoned through meditation. There are also various forms of pride to be abandoned through meditation, although there is also pride in thinking "I am." But in the case of noble ones, various thoughts of "I am" do not arise. By mentioning "etc.," it includes the desire for destruction. Why do these not arise even if they are not abandoned? Because they are increased by views. The various forms of pride and the pride of thinking "I am" are increased by the view of the aggregates of destruction. Therefore, because the path of entry is cut off, they cannot arise again. All afflictions such as killing are increased by wrong views. The desire for destruction is increased by the view of annihilation. The side of the desire for birth is increased by the view of permanence. Non-virtuous remorse is also not. If non-virtuous remorse is not abandoned through meditation, then it will not arise in the case of noble ones, because it is caused by doubt. Also, among these subtle afflictions, which are universally present and which are not universally present? Suffering, cause, what is abandoned by view, view and doubt as well, and those that are not mixed together, what is ignorance, is universally present. Thus, the seven views, the two doubts, the two ignorances, these eleven subtle afflictions, because they all aim at their own entire realm, are universally present in realms of equal share. Among these, nine aim upwards, except for two views. Except for the view of the aggregates of destruction and the view of clinging to extremes, the other nine subtle afflictions are universally present in realms of unequal share. Subtle afflictions are not universally present, but, they and those that arise together, that is also universally present, except for attainment. Attainment is because of multiple results, so it is not included here. Among these subtle afflictions, which aim at the contaminated and which aim at the uncontaminated? Cessation and the path, what is abandoned by view, wrong view, doubt, and those, accompanied and merely ignorance, there are six.

Those with uncontaminated objects of activity. The rest are established as having contaminated objects. Moreover, the cessation and path of one's own ground are mutually causal. The path of the sixth and ninth grounds is the object of its activity. The object of cessation, such as wrong view, is only the cessation of one's own ground. When desiring to have the path as an object, the objects of activity are all the paths of the six grounds that are in accordance with the category of knowing the Dharma, because they are also the antidotes to form and formlessness. In the realms of form and formlessness, the objects of the eight grounds of activity are also all the paths of the nine grounds that are in accordance with the category of subsequent knowledge, because the paths are mutually causal. Furthermore, why are these such as desire not objects of the uncontaminated? Desire is not, because it is to be abandoned. If desire is to be abandoned, then if it were to have the uncontaminated as an object, it would become not to be abandoned, just like the aspiration for virtuous Dharma. Not harming, therefore not hatred. Because anger arises towards things that harm, but cessation and the path are not like that. Because of being peaceful, pure, and supreme. Not arrogance, not holding as supreme. Because cessation and the path are peaceful, it is not appropriate to be satisfied with them, and also because they are pure for the sake of the true meaning, holding the two as pure is also not holding the discipline and asceticism as supreme. Holding the inferior as supreme is holding the view as supreme, but those two are also supreme, therefore, it is reasonable that their object is not uncontaminated. Among those that increase subtly, which increase from the aspect of the object, and which increase only from the aspect of similar possession? Subtle increases that go everywhere, from the aspect of the object, increase in all of their own ground. Those that do not go everywhere, within their own limits. Those that go everywhere, those also increase from the aspect of the object, in the five aspects of their own ground. Those that do not go everywhere, in their own ground, only within their own limits, not elsewhere. Even if there is already having the uncontaminated as an object, the uncontaminated
