Through excellent faith, etc. A donor who possesses qualities such as faith, discipline, and learning is particularly excellent. That donation, due to the excellence of the donor, will also become excellent in producing results. Such a donor is one who gives with respect, etc. Giving with respect, with one's own hands, at the right time, and without harming others. Therefore, one obtains great respect and timeliness without interruption. Therefore, the donation of such a donor will produce such differences in sequence due to the giving. Furthermore, how is an object excellent? An object that is complete with color, etc., is called particularly excellent. By giving such an object, in sequence, one obtains a beautiful form, fame, joy, and extremely youthful skin. Touching this body at the right time transforms it into a body of ease. By giving an object complete with color, one obtains a beautiful form; by giving an object complete with fragrance, one obtains complete fame; by giving an object complete with taste, one obtains joy; by giving an object complete with touch, one obtains an extremely youthful body; touching this body at the right time transforms it into a body of ease. Furthermore, how is the field excellent? The field is made excellent by beings, suffering, benefiting, and qualities. Briefly, how is it with beings? If one gives to those born in the realm of animals, the ripening is a hundredfold. If one gives to a person who has broken their vows, the ripening is a thousandfold. It is excellent through suffering, such as giving to the sick, which is said to ripen immeasurably. From the difference of benefiting, such as parents. From the difference of qualities, such as giving to those who possess discipline, the ripening is a millionfold, and so on. Among all donations, the most excellent is giving to those who are liberated by liberation. Giving to those who are free from attachment by being free from attachment, that is excellent. A Bodhisattva, the donation made by a Bodhisattva for the benefit of all sentient beings is also excellent. Apart from that, among the eight donations spoken of by the Bhagavan, the eighth is said to be excellent. End.

What is giving? It is giving with closeness, giving with fear, giving because of oneself, giving because of what will be given, giving because one's own parents and ancestors of the past gave, giving for the sake of heaven, giving for the sake of fame, the adornment of the mind, the equipment of the mind, the gathering of yoga, and giving for the sake of the supreme meaning. Among these, the last is the most excellent. The Blessed One said that the ripening of giving to those who have entered the stream and those who abide in the fruit of entering the stream is immeasurable. Furthermore, even if they are not noble beings, offerings to parents, the sick, those who speak the Dharma, and Bodhisattvas who are in their last existence are immeasurable. These five, even if they are ordinary beings, are immeasurable fields of offering from the perspective of their results. If you want to know the heaviness and lightness of actions, you should know the six causes, namely: conclusion, field, basis, combination, mind, and thought. From the smallness and greatness of these, actions are also small and great. Conclusion means doing again after doing. Field means doing benefit and harm. Basis is the path of action. Combination is the action of body and speech for that purpose. Mind is what brings the path of the action of speech to completion. Thought is thinking to do this and those among them, or to do like this and that later. What are the actions that have been done and accumulated? Deliberate and complete, without regret, without remedy, and with retinue and ripening, are called accumulated actions. It is done after deliberate thought, not without prior consideration, nor is it done casually. Completion means that some fall into the lower realms because of one transgression, and some fall because of three transgressions. If one falls into the lower realms by whichever of those, by how much, that completion is accumulation. Without regret and without remedy means without remorse in the mind and without remedy. Retinue action means that the retinue of non-virtue is also non-virtue. Ripening action means that it is certain to produce ripening results.
