Ra. Those who do not abide in discipline, when performing actions such as prostrating to stupas with great joy, generate non-revealing form of virtue. Those who abide in discipline, when performing actions such as killing or binding with the power of afflictions, the non-revealing form also follows them as long as those actions persist. The occasion of non-revealing form has been explained. Revealing form is present in all, those who act. All those who abide in discipline, non-discipline, and the intermediate state possess the present as long as they perform revealing form. Until it is abandoned, for a moment, thereafter the past is possessed, and the future is not. The revealing form of the future is not possessed by anyone. Neither obscured nor unobscured, the past is also not possessed. The attainment of weak dharma is also weak, so it is not something that follows. The categories of discipline have been explained before, now explaining non-discipline. Non-discipline, misconduct, and the path of immoral conduct arise from it. The categories of non-discipline should be understood as the opposite of discipline. Having revealing form and not having non-revealing form is a fourfold distinction. Among them, briefly, those who dwell in the intermediate state with weak minds, if they act, possess revealing form. This is briefly the first category. Noble beings who have abandoned revealing form or have not yet generated it do not possess revealing form. Whichever noble being has completely transformed into another life and has not yet generated revealing form, or whose revealing form has deteriorated, possesses only non-revealing form, which is the second category. The third and fourth are easy to understand. Furthermore, how are these disciplines obtained? Born from meditative concentration, they are obtained by the very ground of meditative concentration. When one obtains the actual basis or approximation of a mind with outflows through meditative concentration, one also obtains the discipline of meditative concentration, because they arise simultaneously. The outflowless is obtained by the noble one. There are the four meditative concentrations, unobstructedness, and special meditative concentrations, which are outflowless grounds; by obtaining them, one obtains the outflowless discipline. The so-called individual liberation, if by the revealing form of others, etc.

Regarding this, it can be discerned by others, and this also comes from others, that is, obtained from the Sangha or an individual. The word "etc." includes the fully ordained monks such as "Self-born Buddha." Among them, one should truly take vows as long as life lasts and during the day and night. The vows of the Upavāsa are for the day and night. Others are for as long as life lasts. There is no vow for the day and night. It is said that it is not taken in that way. As long as life lasts, a non-vow will not arise from the commitment of sins, but there is none for the day and night. If one takes the Upavāsa for the day and night, how should one take it? By sitting humbly, reciting, not adorning, or in the morning. The complete limbs of the Upavāsa should be taken from others in the morning. Sitting humbly and reciting is for the purpose of the Upavāsa vows arising. One should repeat after the words of the giver, not before or at the same time. In that way, this is taken from others. Not adorning, except for regular ornaments. It should be taken in the morning, because it is a vow for the day and night. If someone has previously taken it correctly, saying that they will always abide in the eight precepts, then even if they have eaten food, they should take it. It should be taken from others, because even if there are obstacles, one should not transgress. If taken from other places, it will only become a virtuous act, not the vows of the Upavāsa. Why take the eight limbs? The limb of morality, the limb of mindfulness, the limb of asceticism, four, one, and similarly three in order. Also, what will happen if one takes these limbs of mindfulness and asceticism? That will lead to loss of memory and arrogance. Drinking intoxicating beverages will lead to loss of memory of what should and should not be done. If one shows high seats and so on, one will become arrogant. Eating at the proper time and completely abandoning untimely food will cause the memory of the Upavāsa and the memory of renunciation to abide closely, and if those are not there, neither will be there. Also, are these Upavāsa only for lay practitioners? Others also have the vows of the Upavāsa, but not those who have not taken refuge. Non-lay practitioners
