So, adding the non-celibacy vow, the eight precepts, and the eight precepts of not holding gold and silver, from these ten precepts, it is a novice monk (dge tshul). Here, if you add dancing, singing, music, fragrance, garlands, and two kinds of ointments, it becomes ten. Completely returning from all that should be abandoned, and correctly upholding it, then he is a monk (dge slong). The Pratimoksha vow itself is: discipline and good conduct, action and restraint. Returning from unequal actions and upholding them correctly, therefore it is discipline. Praised by the wise, therefore it is good conduct. Because it is the nature of action, therefore it is action. In this way, the Pratimoksha vow is correctly shown for the time being without distinction. Again, it is said: The first manifestation and non-manifestation, Pratimoksha and the path of action. The first of the manifestations and non-manifestations of correctly upholding the precepts are called Pratimoksha, because they are separately liberated from sins. It is called the actual path of action. The second moment and so on are only the Pratimoksha precepts, not the Pratimoksha. It is the ending, but not the actual path of action. Again, which of these precepts are associated with which? Eight are associated with Pratimoksha, such as monks and nuns. Dhyana-born and those associated with it, arising from Dhyana or born of Dhyana, therefore it is Dhyana-born, and whoever is associated with Dhyana is undoubtedly associated with the precepts of Dhyana. Here, the near-attainment concentration is also spoken of as Dhyana. The minds of the stainless noble ones, the stainless precepts are associated with the noble beings. From the previously mentioned following the mind, the last two are following the mind, the precepts of Dhyana and the precepts of stainlessness. Again it is said: The arising of the unobstructed path, those two, are called the abandonment of the invincible. Only those two are called the precepts of abandonment in the nine unobstructed paths. Those two abandon the immoral discipline and the afflictions that cause it. Then, the Blessed One said: Guarding the mind is good, and likewise, the eye faculty.

It is said that one dwells protected by vows. What is the nature of these two, the vows of mind and senses? These two are not of the nature of non-revealing form (rnam par rig byed ma yin pa) morality. However: Correct knowledge and mindfulness, are the vows of mind and senses. The vow of mind is also of the nature of mindfulness and correct knowledge, and so is the vow of senses. Furthermore, what are revealing form and non-revealing form, and for how long are they possessed? As long as one abides in individual liberation, Without abandoning, always possessing the present, Revealing form is not possessed. Whoever abides in the vows of individual liberation possesses the present as long as they do not abandon non-revealing form. From the first moment onwards, one should declare the past and non-abandonment. As it has been declared that one abides in the vows of individual liberation, those who do not abide in vows are the same. That also always possesses the present, and from one moment onwards also possesses the past. Those who possess meditative vows always possess the past and future, and also in the first moment, the meditative vows abandoned in other lifetimes are obtained in the past. Noble ones, the first moment is not the past. Noble ones also possess the non-revealing form of the future without a person in the first moment, but do not possess the past, because that path has not arisen before. Those who abide in meditative equipoise and the noble path, both possess the present. Those who abide in meditative concentration and uncontaminated vows possess the non-revealing form of the present as long as they have not risen. Those who abide in vows and non-vows have been declared. Intermediate dwelling If there is a first intermediate one, whoever is neither a vow nor a non-vow certainly does not have non-revealing form, and whoever has it possesses the present in the first moment. From the first moment onwards, afterwards there are two times first, past and present also. Those who abide in vows and non-vows are also not necessarily always possessed of the non-revealing form of virtue and non-virtue, but those who do not abide in vows practice virtue, those who abide in vows practice non-virtue, revealing form is not possessed, for as long as the power of consciousness and afflictions is strong.
