The intermediate state of existence is invisible. That is because it is only seen by clairvoyance. Mind consciousness has three types. That which is obtained by knowing the minds of others has three aspects: virtuous, non-virtuous, and neutral. That which is done by investigation and mantra, whatever knows the minds of others through signs, and whatever is done by mantra, that also has three aspects. Those obtained by knowing the minds of others and remembering past lives, know earlier than hell, until pressed by the feeling of suffering. Those who dwell in other realms always know. Humans do not obtain it by birth. People do not obtain supernatural powers, etc., by birth. Called "Teaching of Wisdom," it is the seventh chapter of the Treasury. Having explained the qualities of the nature of knowing of the state of knowing, other natures are explained. Therefore, because it is the basis of all qualities, first, meditation is begun. Meditations are of two types, briefly, distinguished by birth and absorption. Those are also, the four meditations, from the first to the fourth meditation. Among them, those born there are explained in detail. There, the respective meditations, etc. The meditation of entering into absorption is to be explained, absorption is a virtuous one-pointedness. A virtuous one-pointed mind is meditation. With followers, it is the five aggregates. With retinue, it is the nature of the five aggregates. Again, what is the first meditation of virtuous one-pointedness like? What are the states up to the fourth meditation like? Possessing investigation, joy, and bliss. The first meditation possesses investigation, joy, and bliss. Because they act together, it also possesses examination. In the remaining three meditations, five limbs each are abandoned. The second is possessing joy and bliss. The third is abandoning investigation and joy. The fourth is abandoning investigation, suffering, and bliss. How are the meditations? Similarly, the four formless aggregates, because they are formless followers. Born from being separated from the lower ground. What is born from the fourth meditation is the sphere of infinite space, up to the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception.

Those are born from being separated from their respective lower positions. Those formless realms are also, together with the three access concentrations, called "destroying the perception of form." The access concentration of the sphere of infinite space does not obtain the name "destroying the perception of form" because it focuses on the fourth dhyana. There is no form in the formless realm. How is that? How will the form of those beings who die and transmigrate from there be reborn after being interrupted for not a few eons? Form arises from the mind. Form arises from the mind that is completely perfumed by its ripening cause, obtaining entry. What? Are those such as the sphere of infinite space called that because they only focus on space and so on? No. However, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of infinite space, and the sphere of nothingness are so practiced. As their number, the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, because of attending and practicing with nothingness in this way, their names are called that. Because of being inferior, there is no perception, and it is also not without perception. Because perception is subtle, it is called neither perception nor non-perception. Thus, the nature of the actual absorption, there are eight kinds. The four dhyanas and the four formless realms. From those, seven, the seven other than the peak of existence are of three kinds, namely, accompanied by feeling, pure, and without outflows. Accompanied by feeling, the pure, and the ones without outflows. The eighth is of two kinds, except for the one without outflows. Among them, the one accompanied by feeling is with desire. The one accompanied by feeling is desire. The virtue of worldly people is pure. The nature of the absorption of the virtue of worldly people is called the pure, because it is associated with white dharmas such as non-attachment. What does the one associated with feeling experience? That is definitely experienced. The nature of the absorption, the pure one, that immediately preceding one, is what experiences that. The one without outflows is the supramundane. The nature of the absorption that is supramundane is the one without outflows. Among those natures of absorption, only the dhyanas have limbs.

It is not without form. In this regard, the first dhyana has five, namely, investigation, analysis, joy, bliss, and samadhi. These are the five limbs of the first dhyana. The second dhyana has four limbs, namely, inner clarity and faith, etc., inner clarity and faith, joy, bliss, and one-pointedness of mind. The second dhyana possesses four limbs. The third dhyana has five, namely, equanimity, mindfulness, clear comprehension, bliss, and abiding. The third dhyana possesses these five limbs: equanimity, mindfulness, clear comprehension, bliss, and samadhi. Finally, the fourth dhyana has four, namely, mindfulness, equanimity, neither bliss nor suffering samadhi. The fourth dhyana is the feeling of neither bliss nor suffering, as well as pure equanimity, pure mindfulness, and samadhi, possessing four limbs. These four, from the perspective of names, have eighteen limbs. In terms of substance, there are eleven. Among them, the first dhyana has five, and the second dhyana adds inner clarity and faith. The third dhyana has equanimity, mindfulness, clear comprehension, and bliss. The fourth dhyana, because of neither bliss nor suffering, is feeling. Why is it said that the bliss present in the third dhyana is a different substance? Because the bliss there is feeling, while in the first dhyana, it is intense joy. In the first and second dhyanas, it is said that intense joy is bliss. What is inner clarity and faith? Inner clarity and faith is confidence. Because one believes that in order to attain the second dhyana, one will definitely arise from the ground of samadhi, therefore it is called inner clarity and faith here. Joy is mental bliss, which should be understood as stated. Otherwise, how would it change? Joy is merely another dharma arising from the mind, while mental bliss is the bliss of all three dhyanas. Because the bliss of dhyana cannot be mental bliss, there are two scriptures, namely, joy and mental bliss. The Blessed One, in the Transformation Sutra, proclaimed the third dhyana and said, "Here, the faculty of mental bliss arises, and all of it will cease." Thus he proclaimed, while in the fourth dhyana, he proclaimed that the faculty of bliss ceases. Also, bliss
