If that happens, the seed will grow, expand, and become vast. Monks, this is an analogy made to understand the meaning, and the meaning should be viewed from another perspective. Monks, the so-called five kinds of seeds are synonyms for consciousness associated with grasping. The so-called earth element is a synonym for the four abodes of consciousness. The so-called water element is a synonym for the desire of delight. Monks, there are four abodes of consciousness associated with grasping. Which four? Monks, consciousness closely relies on and abides in form, relies on form, dwells in form, completely dwells in form, seeks and depends on it, thereby growing, expanding, and becoming vast. Closely approaching feeling, closely approaching perception, monks, consciousness closely relies on and abides in formations, relies on formations, dwells in formations, completely dwells in formations, seeks and depends on it, thereby growing, expanding, and becoming vast. Monks, apart from these, there is no such thing as consciousness going, coming, abiding, dying, being born, growing, expanding, and becoming vast. Monks, if someone were to say, 'I will posit consciousness apart from form, apart from feeling, perception, and formations, as going, coming, abiding, dying, being born, growing, and expanding,' then he would not fully understand his words and the answers to questions, and would be confused about the answers, because in any case, that is not his domain. Why is that? Monks, if one becomes free from desire for the element of form, then being free from desire, one will abandon the bond of the mind's nature that closely approaches form, and having abandoned the bond of the mind's nature that closely approaches form, the object will be cut off, and the abode of consciousness will not grow, expand, and become vast. The element of feeling and the element of perception, monks, if one becomes free from desire for the element of formations, then being free from desire for formations, one will abandon closely approaching formations.

The bondage of the nature of the mind of beings will be abandoned, and if the bondage of the nature of the mind that approaches the conditioned is abandoned, then the object will be explained, and the abode of consciousness will increase and expand, and will not be wide. The abode of consciousness increases, and if it does not manifest and increase, then it will not manifest and accumulate, and because it does not manifest and accumulate, it will abide there. Because it abides there, it will rejoice. From joy it will be liberated. From liberation it will not take anything from the world. If it is not taken, there will be no suffering. Whoever is completely without suffering, that inner self-nature is extinguished, and my birth is exhausted. The pure conduct has been practiced. What should be done has been done. It will become that I will not know anything other than this world. I do not say that his consciousness has gone to the eastern realm. The south and the west and the north and the upper and lower directions, and also not between the directions, otherwise in the visible Dharma nature, without shadow, completely extinguished, peaceful and cool is pure conduct, as it is said. Also, it is said in the sutra as a cause, where it is said, the beginning is in Shravasti. Monks, ignorance is the cause of true attachment, the cause of true hatred, and the cause of true delusion. Ignorance is the cause of true attachment, the cause of true hatred, and the cause of true delusion. Monks, because karma is the cause of birth, and craving is the cause of manifest accomplishment, here practicing the nature of virtue, the defiled karma, after being born there, will each experience the ripening, therefore I say that the karma of sentient beings will not go elsewhere. So it is said. In the sutra with cause and with condition and with basis, the second verse of the summary collected by the group of six sense sources, the verse of the summary called "passed" has been collected, and previously in the third chapter of the Abhidharma-kosha, which appeared in the sutra of ultimate emptiness, at the time of dependent origination, the non-rational attention to ignorance was explained.
