I spoke of countless years, and performed deeds of unwholesome thoughts, and those deeds and those doubts of cessation, destruction, and decay, those also are for showing the great category of the forty dharmas, for those belonging to hatred and fear, together I do not think of averting and being angry, thus it was said. Called two liberations, earth and child first and, lineage and discipline suffering and, relying on father destroying and, perversion is the eighth. Called as such the summary verse, from the sutra of relying on father appears, in the third chapter of the Abhidharmakosha, in the chapter of dependent arising, it has been written to show wisdom and afflictions. Then in the sutra it says sons of Tiger Bodhi etc., the venerable Ananda traveled from Krondhi to Rojayan. He stayed in the Sal tree grove north of Rojayan city. Then the people of Rojayan and Krondhi heard that the great hero, the venerable Ananda, had traveled from Krondhi to Rojayan. He stayed in the Sal tree grove north of Rojayan city, having heard this, they gathered and closely gathered. They assembled and thoroughly assembled, having thoroughly assembled, wherever the venerable Ananda was, they went there. Having gone there, they prostrated at the feet of the venerable Ananda, and then sat on one side. Having sat on one side, the venerable Ananda said this to the people of Rojayan and Krondhi. Sons of Tiger Bodhi, the Bhagavan Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha, the knower and seer, spoke of four roots of complete purity, what are the four? They are the root of complete purity of discipline, the root of complete purity of mind, the root of complete purity of view, and the root of complete purity of liberation. Sons of Tiger Bodhi, what is the root of complete purity of discipline? It is that here the noble hearer is endowed with discipline, restrained by the vows of individual liberation, complete in conduct and scope, seeing fear even in the slightest fault, learning and abiding in the precepts that are truly taken, the aggregate of discipline.

In order to perfect the complete perfection, and in order to follow the complete perfection, diligence, effort, joy, initiation, non-abandonment, and holding the mind firmly, this is called the chief of complete purification of morality. Sons of the noble family, what is the chief of complete purification of mind? It is when a noble disciple possesses hearing, is separated from desire, is separated from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, and dwells having cultivated the fourth dhyana. In order to perfect the complete perfection of the aggregate of samadhi, and in order to follow the complete perfection, up to the point where this is called the chief of complete purification of mind. Sons of the noble family, what is the chief of complete purification of view? It is when a noble disciple, whether a teacher or a spiritual friend who practices the holy life, teaches the Dharma, and as he teaches, the spiritual friend who practices the holy life, in whatever way he teaches, in that way he becomes more and more aware of the dharmas, and sees them as they are with correct wisdom. As he becomes more and more aware of the dharmas, and sees them as they are with correct wisdom, in that way he gains the power of meaning in those dharmas, gains the power of Dharma, and becomes extremely devoted to the teacher. Furthermore, it is when a noble disciple, whether a teacher or a spiritual friend who practices the holy life, does not teach the Dharma, but recites with a broad tone the dharmas that he has heard, that have been taught, and that he has understood. As he recites with a broad tone the dharmas that he has heard, that have been taught, and that he has understood, in that way he becomes more and more aware of the dharmas, and sees them as they are with correct wisdom. Furthermore, here, if there is any place like the abode of a noble Śrāvaka teacher or a Brahmacārin superior, they do not teach the Dharma, nor do they extensively recite the Dharma as heard, as shown, and as understood. However, they accurately explain the Dharma as heard, as shown, and as understood to others. The more they extensively clarify the Dharma as heard, as shown, and as understood to others, the more they will deeply understand these Dharmas and see them as they are with correct wisdom. The more they deeply understand these Dharmas and see them as they are with correct wisdom, the more they will gain the power of meaning, the power of Dharma, and have complete faith in the teacher.
