. Whatever other than this existence, they do not know. Thus, they will attain liberation and see the wisdom of liberation. The mind will not attain liberation, but through that very desire for the Dharma, that very craving for the Dharma, that very joy in the Dharma, that very intense delight in the Dharma, having abandoned the five pervasive factors that are in accordance with the final part, they will be born and completely pass into nirvana. They will not be born and completely pass into nirvana, but will completely pass into nirvana without effort. They will not completely pass into nirvana without effort, but will completely pass into nirvana with effort. They will not completely pass into nirvana with effort, but will be reborn higher up. They will not be reborn higher up, but through that very desire for the Dharma, that very craving for the Dharma, that very joy in the Dharma, that very intense delight in the Dharma, they will be born sharing the same destiny as the gods who closely approach the sphere of infinite consciousness. Monks, here, whatever the form of a monk, whatever the sign, whatever the characteristic, in all respects, having completely transcended the sphere of infinite consciousness, thinking that there is nothing at all, they cultivate and abide in the sphere of nothingness. They do not pay attention to those forms, those signs, those characteristics, but rather, they attend to the aspects of feeling, or the aspects of perception, or the aspects of formation, or the aspects of consciousness, which are the objects of focus there, in a way that is without movement, as before, until the exhaustion of craving, detachment, cessation, and nirvana. This sutra goes as far as cessation and nirvana. Knowing thus and seeing thus, the mind is liberated from the outflows of desire, and the mind is liberated from the outflows of existence and ignorance, up to the point of saying, "Other than this existence, they do not know." They will not be liberated, but through that very desire for the Dharma, that very craving for the Dharma, that very joy in the Dharma, that very intense delight in the Dharma, in accordance with the final part

Having abandoned the five pervasions, he will be born and pass into complete nirvana. He will not be born and pass into complete nirvana, but will pass into complete nirvana without effort. He will not pass into complete nirvana without effort, but will pass into complete nirvana with effort. He will not pass into complete nirvana with effort, but will be transferred upwards. He will not be transferred upwards, but through that very desire for the Dharma, that very craving for the Dharma, that very delight in the Dharma, and that very intense joy in the Dharma, he will be born with the same fortune as the gods who approach the sphere of nothingness. Bhikshus, here, with what aspect, what sign, and what mark does a bhikshu completely transcend the sphere of nothingness and attain and abide in the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception? He does not attend to those aspects, those signs, and those marks. However, there, whatever is the feeling that is perceived, or what has become perception, or what has become formation, or the dharmas of consciousness, he attends to them without interruption. And he attends to sickness, tumors, pain, harm, impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. From attending to these dharmas without interruption, up to attending to selflessness, therefore, he develops aversion, fear, and revulsion towards these dharmas. Having developed aversion, fear, and revulsion towards these dharmas, (he thinks) "This is peaceful, this is excellent, that is to say, complete liberation from all grasping, the exhaustion of craving, detachment, cessation, nirvana." Up to the sutra itself and cessation and complete nirvana. Knowing thus and seeing thus, his mind becomes completely liberated from the outflows of desire, and his mind becomes completely liberated from the outflows of existence and ignorance. "My birth is exhausted, the holy life has been lived, what had to be done has been done, there is no more future existence." This is the highest state of liberation and the wisdom of liberation.

I will become an intermediate Nirvana-attainer. I will not become a complete Nirvana-attainer. Because of the desire for the Dharma, the craving for the Dharma, the joy in the Dharma, and the extreme delight in the Dharma, having abandoned the five fetters corresponding to the lower part, one will be born and attain complete Nirvana. One will not be born and attain complete Nirvana, but will become a non-striving Nirvana-attainer. One will not become a non-striving Nirvana-attainer, but will become a striving Nirvana-attainer. One will not become a striving Nirvana-attainer, but because of the desire for the Dharma, the craving for the Dharma, the joy in the Dharma, and the extreme delight in the Dharma, one will be born equal to the gods who approach the realm of neither perception nor non-perception. Thus spoke the Blessed One. Then, regarding the story of "Subduing the Mara," etc., it is like the end of a verse composed with melodies, liberating from the threat of Mara. Then, a wicked person named "Subduing the Mara" thought: I should do this so that these bald nuns cannot find an opportunity to enter, and I will kill them with my own body. At that time, the Perfectly Complete Buddha of the Degenerate Aeon was staying together with the Venerable Wise Brahmin in the village of Sala. Then, the Perfectly Complete Buddha of the Degenerate Aeon, in the early morning, put on his robes and carried his bowl, and the Venerable Wise One followed behind, entering the Brahmin village of Sala for alms. Then, Subduing the Mara, holding stones and pebbles, struck the head of the Venerable Wise One, causing him to bleed. Then, the Venerable Wise One, with blood flowing from his struck head, followed the Blessed One, the Perfectly Complete Buddha of the Degenerate Aeon, like a shadow. The Perfectly Complete Buddha of the Degenerate Aeon, with the gaze of an elephant king, looked to the right side of his entire body and saw that the Venerable Wise One's head had been struck and was bleeding.
