It will not change, it will move upwards. It will not move upwards, but because of that aspiration for the Dharma, that craving for the Dharma, that joy in the Dharma, and that very delight in the Dharma, one will be born equal to the gods of Lesser Light. One will not be equal to the gods of Lesser Light, but one will be born equal to the gods of Immeasurable Light. One will not be equal to the gods of Immeasurable Light, but one will be born equal to the gods of Clear Light. Monks, in what way, with what sign, with what characteristic, does a monk here, being detached from desire from joy and abiding in equanimity, being mindful and aware, experiencing happiness with the body, and abiding in mindfulness and happiness, which is said to be the equanimity of the noble ones, having cultivated the third dhyana, abide closely? He does not attend to that very form, that sign, that characteristic of abiding closely, but rather, he does not let the mind go to the form of the object of sight, or the form of feeling, or the form of perception, or the form of formation, or the form of consciousness, but attends to those dharmas without going astray, as disease, boil, wound, harm, impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. By attending to those dharmas without letting the mind go astray, from attending to selflessness onwards, the mind becomes weary, fearful, and disgusted with the dharmas. Because he is weary, fearful, and disgusted with the dharmas, he thinks: This is peace, this is excellent, that is, definite departure from all grasping, the exhaustion of craving, detachment, cessation. He will fix his mind on the sphere of the undying, and that sutra is up to cessation and nirvana. Seeing thus and knowing thus, the mind will be completely liberated from the outflow of desire, and the mind will be completely liberated from the outflow of existence and the outflow of ignorance. My birth is exhausted, the ব্রহ্মচर्या (brahmacarya,梵行) has been practiced, what was to be done has been done, there is nothing else to know beyond this existence. He will see liberation and the wisdom of liberation. Liberation

They will not be liberated. Because of their desire for the Dharma, their craving for the Dharma, their joy in the Dharma, and their exceeding joy in the Dharma, having abandoned the five pervasive factors that are in accordance with the final part, they will completely attain nirvana in the intermediate state. They will not completely attain nirvana in the intermediate state, but will completely attain nirvana after being born. They will not completely attain nirvana after being born, but will completely attain nirvana without exertion. They will not completely attain nirvana without exertion, but will completely attain nirvana with exertion. They will not completely attain nirvana with exertion, but will be reborn somewhere. They will not be reborn in a higher realm, but because of their desire for the Dharma, their craving for the Dharma, their joy in the Dharma, and their exceeding joy in the Dharma, they will be born equal to the lesser virtuous gods. They will not be born equal to the lesser virtuous gods, but will be born equal to the immeasurable virtuous gods. They will not be born equal to the immeasurable virtuous gods, but will be born equal to the increasing virtuous gods. Monks, here, with what form, what sign, what characteristic does a monk abandon pleasure and also abandon suffering, and both joy and displeasure have ceased from before, and abiding in equanimity, which is neither pleasure nor pain, completely pure, having cultivated the fourth dhyana, they do not attend to those forms, those signs, those characteristics, but nevertheless, in that which is the object, the form of form, or the form of feeling, or the form of perception, or the form of formation, or the form of consciousness, without interruption, attending to those dharmas, until craving is exhausted, detached from desire, and attaining nirvana. That is to say, the cessation of that sutra, until nirvana. Knowing thus and seeing thus, the mind will be completely liberated from the outflows of desire, as well as the outflows of existence and ignorance.
