The Explanation of the Treasury of Abhidharma, Called "Near Benefit," by Zhi Gnas Lha. The Explanation of the Treasury of Abhidharma, Called "Near Benefit." By Zhi Gnas Lha. In Indian language: Abhidharmakośa-upāyika-nāma-ṭīkā. In Tibetan: The Explanation of the Treasury of Abhidharma, Called "Near Benefit." Homage to the All-Knowing One! Homage to the Noble Great Compassionate One! Whoever, afflicted and unafflicted, whose mind is deluded by the entirety of knowable objects, the basis of all deterioration, whose wisdom rays completely eliminate it, who possesses compassion, extends his hand to teach the Dharma, and leads beings from the mire of samsara, to him I pay homage at the very beginning. All doctrines of self and others without exception, famously renowned as eloquent expositors, the teacher of the All-Knowing One, having respectfully paid homage to Śākya, whose mind is clear by touching the lotus dust of his feet, the monk Zhi Gnas Lha, here gathers what is needed for the Treasury. "Whoever" is spoken in reference to the Buddha, the Bhagavan. The sound of Buddha is spoken with the definition of Sugata. For example: Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in Śrāvastī, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anāthapindika. Then, another Brahmin went to where the Bhagavan was, and having arrived, exchanged greetings with the Bhagavan, and after conversing on various topics that were pleasing, joyful, and delightful, sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Brahmin said to the Bhagavan: "Gautama, is the name 'Buddha, Buddha' given to you by your father and mother? By what definition is one called a Buddha?" Then, the Brahmin at that time spoke this verse: "The leader of the world, the excellent name 'Buddha' arises, was it given by father and mother? By what definition is one called a Buddha?" Out of compassion for the Brahmin, the Teacher prophesied to him: "Brahmin, how does one attain the characteristics of a Buddha? A Buddha is one who has passed beyond the time of the destruction of conditioned phenomena.

See. Likewise, the future time, Likewise, see what is happening now. Manifestly knowable, manifestly knowing, Likewise, what is to be meditated upon, meditate, And what is to be abandoned, abandon, see. Therefore, the Brahmin speaks of the Buddha. Whatever is slightly knowable, I completely know all of them. Knowing all and seeing all, Therefore, Brahmin is the Buddha. Actions, death, and suffering, Having thought only for an eon, Without impurity, free from dust, without thorns, Having attained this enlightenment, I am enlightened. Then, the Brahmin was delighted with what the Bhagavan said, and after rejoicing, he departed from the presence of the Bhagavan. The word 'Bhagavan' is also the first collection of the aggregates of Dharma, so what is its definition? The so-called Bhagavan is so-called because he possesses a share of virtuous dharmas, or because he possesses a share of cultivating virtuous dharmas, or because he possesses a share of cultivating all virtuous dharmas. Furthermore, the Buddha Bhagavan, having cultivated the body, cultivated morality, cultivated the mind, and cultivated wisdom, possesses the nature of greatness and is endowed with immeasurable and countless dharmas, therefore he is called the Buddha Bhagavan. Furthermore, the Buddha Bhagavan possesses power, ability, going, freedom, supreme strength, fortune, and control, therefore he is called Bhagavan. Furthermore, the Buddha Bhagavan has conquered desire, conquered hatred, conquered ignorance, and the sinful, unwholesome dharmas, afflictions, and the suffering of birth, old age, and death that come with disease and maturation in existence. As it is said: Having conquered desire and conquered hatred, Having conquered ignorance and abandoned afflictions, This sinful, unwholesome dharma, Because of conquering, he is called Bhagavan. As it is said, he is called Bhagavan. Furthermore, the Buddha Bhagavan, after practicing pure conduct, The dharmas that he himself had not heard, had not seen, and had not known in the past, later, after attaining great enlightenment, saw and realized the dharmas, and for the Shravakas, he distinguished the dharmas well, and truly distinguished the dharmas well, and together
