Those children, having adorned their necks with Karavera flowers, holding up the display board, and carrying the tall yoke on their shoulders, could be heard in the market of the royal palace, the assembly place, the crossroads, the triple crossroads, and many other different places: 'Hey people, this fellow is a thief, like a black snake in a flower, making all the rich people poor, transgressing the king's laws, committing sins by the king's command, look at this one who is hung on the display board!' they said. He said, 'Good people, quickly execute the king's command at the top of the display board.' Those people said, 'Isn't it good to strive to do things in this order?' He also said, 'Do it quickly, lest it become an obstacle to death!' Those people said, 'Aren't you being a thief for the sake of living? Why do you think so many times about completely giving up life?' He said, 'There is no other way than this path.' Again they said, 'Women, children, young people, old people, before reaching youth, are recognized as thieves, and with their arms tightly bound, the king has given the command to kill, your hand is here, there is no other way than to leave the land of Yama, this is certain.' They said to each other, 'This fellow is capable of robbing the property of all the people of Magadha.' Why? Even without regard for life, entering into cruelty, this person, whether he has merit or not, there is nothing to understand. We often see many who commit sins being killed, some wanting to be intoxicated, others wanting food, others water, others wanting the happiness of seeing relatives, others wanting a dwelling, most of the people to be killed, some just want to live for a moment. You want to lose your life, why is this? Where does this thought come from?' He said, 'Whatever anyone perceives as valuable, that is what they strive for, this is the way of the world. If I also perceive death as valuable, then I will strive for it. Quickly fulfill my wish and complete what I seek. Otherwise, my being accused of being a thief will become meaningless.' Again they said, 'Hanging on the display board, hair disheveled, blood flowing from the body, eyes pecked by crows.'

dripping into the pool of blood, after the jackals, vultures, tigers, and leopards have devoured all the flesh and blood, look at me abandoning my life to give alms in the charnel ground! They considered each other and said: These various statements are truly astonishing. We cannot make this public until the king has heard of it. Then, one of the executioners went back and reported to the king. The king summoned him and asked: Is what you said true? He replied: Yes, Your Majesty. The king asked: What is accomplished by dying? He replied: To be ordained in the Buddhist teachings. The king said: If you have not attained a teacher while alive, how can you attain it after death? From where did this determination arise? Tell me truthfully what is in your mind. He said to the king: Your Majesty, if I speak the truth, I wish to die for the sake of ordination. The king said: You have not explained it in order. Explain it in detail in order. As he had said before, he explained his words in detail and pleaded: Your Majesty, please look! From where does the Thubpa (ཐུབ་པ་,梵文天城体:मुनि,梵文罗马拟音:muni,汉语字面意思:Muni) and others who endure suffering begin? All of that is for the sake of others, not for oneself. Even so, those who do not abide by the teachings are like a heap of unconscious grass, merely a burden on the earth. After the teacher passed into nirvana, his sangha, like a painting, embarked on the path of liberation from samsara. However, because the mind of delusion is constantly increasing, obscuring that state, how can it be of help? Therefore, it must be recognized that as long as there is a view of nirvana, this sound will be powerless. Those who have placed themselves in various evil realms, and those who have not been born for a long time in the realms of bliss that are free from defilements, what sentient beings have not appeared in various places? Those with wisdom who see themselves and others in this way will liberate the bonds of beings. When the king heard his words, he spoke with eyes as wondrous as the petals of a lotus: Alas, I did not make a wise judgment beforehand, and received the command from the executioner. Those who refute and argue, do they not see that the various actions and their results are hidden? Have you truly seen the truth? Able.
