After that, another son and the son of a son, and the grandson of a grandson, eighty-four thousand great kings practiced the pure conduct of a king in accordance with the Dharma in this place of Mithila. Just as the two Chakravartin kings do not die, so too should one understand renouncing the Chakravartin throne and going forth. The so-called 'messenger of the Victorious One,' the Victorious One is the Bhagavan, it is the one who delivers messages to him. If that person does not do the work of delivering messages, he will either have a short life, or he will not die from both causes, like the parrot of the mango gardener. The Bhagavan went to the flourishing region, arriving at the field with rivers. The mango gardener heard that the Bhagavan was staying in the place with rivers, she had a parrot that could speak human language and understand human language, named 'Parrot Prosperity.' She said to Parrot Prosperity like this: 'Prosperity, you go to where the Bhagavan is, and after arriving, with my words, bow to the feet of the Bhagavan with your head, and greet him: Is he well? Is he free from worry? Is his movement light? Does he have vitality, strength? Is his complexion healthy? Does he dwell in happiness?' The venerable mango gardener said to the venerable one like this: 'When the Bhagavan goes to Vaishali, please first consider the loving-kindness towards the mango grove, and request him to go.' After that, Parrot Prosperity heard what the mango gardener said, and went to where the Bhagavan was. Those Licchavi youths saw it and began to shoot arrows, thinking: 'Where is the parrot of our prostitute going?' Those arrows began to fall on their heads. Then, the parrot spoke a verse: 'It is heard that foreigners do not harm, nor are messengers bound. I am the messenger of the Victorious One, I do not harm all sentient beings.' They spoke a verse: 'Your words can make our arrows break and fall. The great sage has well protected you, you may depart without fear.' After that, Parrot Prosperity approached where the Bhagavan was, and after approaching, bowed to the feet of the Bhagavan with his head, and said to the Bhagavan like this

I beseech the earth! Prostrating with my head at the feet of the venerable Bhagavan, the protector of Amra, and asking from "Is there little harm?" to "Do you abide in comfort as before?" May you, Radiant Face, and the protector of Amra be well! The venerable protector of Amra said this: When the Bhagavan went to Vaishali, he first compassionately thought of the Amra grove and requested the Bhagavan to go there. The Bhagavan did not speak to the parrot Radiant Face, so it was permitted. Then, the parrot Radiant Face knew that the Bhagavan's silence was permission, so he prostrated with his head at the feet of the Bhagavan and left from the Bhagavan's presence. Leaving from the Bhagavan's feet, before long, a crow took his life. After he died, below the place of death, he was born among the gods of the Four Great Kings. This is the nature of Dharma, that after a god is born, before long, three thoughts manifest in the mind of that god: From where did I die and transmigrate? Where was I born? By what karma was I born? Thus he arises. He observed that he had died from the animal realm and was born among the gods of the Four Great Kings, and he thought that it was due to the cause of manifesting faith in the Bhagavan. Then, the son of the gods who was previously born as a parrot thought: It is not proper for me to go to see the Bhagavan after a night has passed. I should go near to see the Bhagavan before the night has passed. So, the son of the gods who was previously born as a parrot, wearing swaying, immaculate earrings, adorned with a half-net of pearls, on that very day, holding the celestial flowers উৎপala (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, উৎপala, blue lotus), lotus (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, padma, lotus), puṇḍarīka (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, puṇḍarīka, white lotus) and maṇḍala flowers, came and approached, and at night came to where the Bhagavan was. Having approached, he scattered flowers on the Bhagavan and sat before the Bhagavan to listen to the Dharma. Moreover, the light of the one previously born as a parrot illuminated and pervaded the entire dwelling. Then, the Bhagavan knew the thoughts, latent tendencies, elements, and nature of the son of the gods who was previously born as a parrot, and the noble truths.
