They gathered dry grass, dry wood, and dry cow dung, lit what could be burned, and the fire blazed up. Then, the Venerable Jivaka arose from that day's absorption, shook his robes, and in the morning, taking his robes and bowl, entered a village or city for alms, with his body very restrained, his senses very restrained, and mindfulness perfectly established. Cowherds, shepherds, grass cutters, wood cutters, those who lived by the road, and those who lived on the road, seeing him, thought: We saw this noble one sitting as if he had passed away, so we gathered dry grass, dry wood, and dry cow dung, lit what could be burned, started a fire, and came to see if this Venerable Noble One was still alive. Sinful ones, because of this cause and condition, the Venerable Jivaka was named Jivaka. The Venerable Upaka, from the gain of the stone garment of the stupa of Pālasu in Varanasi, a Bhikshuni, holding a needle and a weapon, arose with a mind of harming, and entered into absorption to prevent the robe from being unblessed. She pierced the robe with a needle and a weapon, thinking, 'Die!' and then left. He then arose from samadhi, went to Jetavana, and told the Bhikshus what had happened. Thus it is drawn from the first verse of the Vinaya of the Eight Doors of Minor Matters. The wise consider entering the path of seeing, etc., to be one-pointed mind and no-mind. One-pointed no-mind, in the third chapter of the Treasury, death and rebirth are prevented, and it should be understood that such elaboration will be explained. The so-called royal ascetic is one who, as a Chakravartin king, allows his eldest son to wield the power of the kingdom and then renounces. For example, it is drawn from the sutra that is perfectly consistent with the king. In the Sutra of the Twelve Great Gods, the Blessed One said: When people's lifespan reaches eighty thousand years, there will be a Chakravartin king named Great God, who will be victorious over the four continents.

Endowed with Dharma, he became a great Dharma king possessing the seven precious things. His seven precious things were tangible treasures of this kind: namely, the precious wheel, the precious elephant, the precious horse, the precious woman, the precious householder, the precious general, and the precious jewel. Moreover, a thousand sons were born to him, brave, valiant, possessing the finest limbs, and utterly destroying the enemy forces. This great earth, all the way to the ocean, was without harm or injury, without sticks or weapons, and he dwelt having utterly conquered by Dharma. Then, the great King of Gods, at another time, when a barber was shaving his hair and beard, summoned the barber and said: 'Barber, when you see a white hair, a messenger of the gods, growing and appearing on my head, you must tell me.' The barber, having heard the great King of Gods speak, replied: 'Yes, Your Majesty.' At another time, when the barber was shaving the hair and beard of the great King of Gods, he saw a white hair, a messenger of the gods, growing and appearing on the head of the great King of Gods. Having seen it, he reported to the great King of Gods, saying: 'Your Majesty, know that a white hair, a messenger of the gods, has grown and appeared from your head.' He said: 'Barber, pluck that white hair gently with golden tweezers and give it to me.' The barber replied: 'Yes, Your Majesty.' The barber gently plucked the white hair that had grown from the head of the great King of Gods with golden tweezers and presented it to the great King of Gods. Then, the great King of Gods, holding that white hair with both hands, stretched it out, and stretched it out greatly, and then spoke specifically: On the crown of my finest limb, the first to arise is that which steals youth. Since a messenger of the gods has appeared, the time for renunciation has arrived. The time has come for me to entrust the happiness of the people to the gods through enjoyment. I will give the power of the kingdom to the young prince, my eldest son...

Let (him) take control and practice the pure conduct of a righteous king. Then, King Mahadeva sent a messenger to summon the young prince, the eldest son, and said these words: 'Young one, know that the messenger of the gods, white hair, has grown and appeared on my head. The time for renunciation has come. I have fully satisfied the desires of the people, and now it is time to seek the bliss of the gods. Young one, I give you this vast land, reaching to the ocean. You must teach them correctly with Dharma, and not with non-Dharma. If anyone acts with non-Dharma and behaves improperly, expel them from the country. Young one, when the messenger of the gods, white hair, grows and appears on your head, then you too let the young prince take control of the power of the kingdom, and practice the pure conduct of a righteous king. In any case, young one, you must enter the path of virtue and follow it. Do not become an inferior person, nor the most inferior person. Young one, some will enter this essence of good men, and some will not enter this essence of determination and the path of virtue, nor will they follow it, and they will become inferior people, the most inferior people.' On earth, young one, I say to you, you must enter this essence of good men, enter this essence of determination and the path of virtue, and follow it. I tell you, do not become an inferior person, nor the most inferior person. Then, King Mahadeva let the young prince, the eldest son, take control of the power of the kingdom, and practiced the pure conduct of a righteous king. Ananda, King Mahadeva let the young prince, the eldest son, take control of the power of the kingdom, and this one called King Mahadeva, who is a Chakravartin who has conquered the four directions, possesses Dharma, is a king of Dharma, and is fully endowed with the seven precious jewels, remained as before. (This passage continues) until the end. Ananda.
