Therefore, it is called the activity of speech. Why are perception and mind called the activity of mind? Venerable Saga, breathing is a property of the body. It relies on the body, is related to the body, and enters completely relying on the body. Therefore, breathing is called the activity of the body. Thinking and examining are speaking after thinking and examining. Therefore, thinking and examining are called the activity of speech. Perception and mind are phenomena arising from the mind. They follow the mind, rely on the mind, are related to the mind, and enter completely relying on the mind. Therefore, perception and mind are called the activity of mind. Holy mother, when that dharma abandons the body and remains like a mindless tree, what is the dharma that abandons the body and remains at that time? Venerable Saga, it is these three: life, warmth, and consciousness. Life, warmth, and consciousness, when the body is abandoned, and what remains at that time after abandoning it, is like a mindless tree. Holy mother, is there a difference in thought or cause between one who has died and passed away and one who has entered cessation? Is there any difference? Venerable Saga, there are many differences in thought or cause between one who has died and passed away and one who has entered cessation. Venerable Saga, one who has died and passed away is when the activity of the body ceases, the activity of the mind and the activity of speech cease, separated from life and warmth, the faculties change, and consciousness departs from the body. Entering cessation is when the activity of the body ceases, the activity of speech and the activity of mind cease, but life and warmth do not cease, the faculties change, and consciousness does not depart from the body. Venerable Saga, this is the thought, cause, and difference between one who has died and passed away and one who has entered cessation. Holy mother, how does one enter cessation? Venerable Saga, when a monk enters cessation, he does not think, "I will enter cessation in this way." This mind has already been completely subdued and completely

The more one cultivates, the more one abides in that state. Holy mother, how does one arise from cessation? Venerable Saga, when a monk abides in cessation and arises, he does not think, "I will arise from cessation," but his mind has already been completely cultivated in such a way that the more he cultivates, the more he abides in that state. Holy mother, when a monk enters cessation, which of the bodily, verbal, or mental fabrications ceases first? Venerable Saga, when a monk enters cessation, the verbal fabrication ceases first, then the bodily and mental fabrications. Holy mother, when a monk arises from cessation, which of the bodily, verbal, or mental fabrications arises first? Venerable Saga, when a monk arises from cessation, the mental fabrication arises first, then the bodily and verbal fabrications. Holy mother, when a monk arises from cessation, where does his mind incline, flow, and tend? Venerable Saga, when a monk arises from cessation, his mind inclines to solitude, flows to solitude, and tends to solitude. It inclines to liberation, flows to liberation, and tends to liberation. It inclines to nirvana, flows to nirvana, and tends to nirvana. Holy mother, when a monk arises from cessation, what does he touch? Venerable Saga, he touches the three: the immovable, the nonexistent, and the signless. Holy mother, when a monk enters cessation, how many dharmas does he create? Venerable Saga, this question should have been asked at the beginning, but even now that it has been asked, it should be answered. When a monk enters cessation, he creates many with two dharmas: calm abiding and insight. Holy mother, what is feeling? Venerable Saga, there are three: pleasant feeling, painful feeling, and neither pleasant nor painful feeling. Holy mother, what is pleasant feeling? What is painful feeling?
