Thinking thus, when grass was needed, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, knowing with the mind of a Bodhisattva, took a load of grass that was soft to the touch from the Fragrant Mountain, and manifested himself as the auspicious grass seller, sitting in front of the Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva said: O, you with the most excellent face, please give me grass. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, touched the feet of the Bodhisattva and offered the grass with reverence. Then, the Bodhisattva took the grass from the auspicious grass seller and approached the Bodhi tree by the path blessed by the gods. Having approached, as he was about to spread the unmixed and pure grass mat, those grasses fell unmixed. The Bodhisattva thought to himself: Since these grasses have fallen, I will surely realize the unsurpassed wisdom. Then, on the Vajra Seat, like a Naga king, he sat cross-legged, straightened his body, focused his mindfulness, directed his mind, generated the mind of enlightenment, and also spoke the words: Until I have attained the unconditioned, I shall not break this cross-legged posture. If one asks, do these arise and then completely perish? etc. In the first verse of the concluding summary of the seventh Madhyama Agama Sutra, it is recited thus: Venerable ones, this is a Bhikshu who is perfect in morality, perfect in samadhi, and perfect in wisdom. He also repeatedly enters and abides in the state of cessation of perception and feeling, knowing it as it truly is. He does not attain omniscience in this very life, nor at the time of death, nor after the destruction of the body, he transcends the gods who eat coarse food, and will be born in any mind-made divine body. Having been born there, he again and again enters and abides in the state of cessation of perception and feeling, knowing it as it truly is. At that time, the venerable Utpadaka was sitting in that assembly.

He said this twice, three times. Then, the Venerable Shariputra thought: 'What I have said, this bhikkhu refutes and gets angry three times, and the ব্রহ্মচারী (brahmacārī, celibate practitioners) also do not rejoice in what I have said, I should go to where the Blessed One is.' Then, the Venerable Shariputra went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and then sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Venerable Shariputra said to the bhikkhu: 'Venerable ones, here is a bhikkhu who is perfect in morality, perfect in concentration, perfect in wisdom, and he truly knows the place of entering into and arising from the cessation of perception and feeling again and again.' From truly knowing to truly knowing. Then, at that time, at that moment, the Venerable Shining was sitting in that assembly.

The venerable Shariputra became silent. Then, the Blessed One called to the venerable Lighting, saying: Lighting, do you know what any mind-made divine body is? Venerable, are they not those formless conscious gods? Foolish, blind man, do you think you can discuss the Dharma Abhidhamma and the Vinaya with the sighted monk Shariputra? Then, the Blessed One openly rebuked the venerable Lighting, and then called to the venerable Ananda, saying: Ananda, do you also treat the elder monks with contempt and indifference? Great man, do you not feel compassion for those who rebuke the elder monks? Then, the Blessed One openly rebuked the venerable Lighting and the venerable Ananda, and then called to the monks, saying: Here, monks, there are also those who are perfect in morality, perfect in samadhi, and perfect in wisdom, and they also repeatedly enter into and arise from the state of cessation of perception and feeling, knowing it as it truly is. He does not attain omniscience in this very life, and even at the time of death, after the body is destroyed, he transcends the gods who eat coarse food and will be born into any mind-made divine body. Having been born there, he also repeatedly enters into and arises from the state of cessation of perception and feeling, knowing it as it truly is. Having said this, the Blessed One rose from his seat in order to enter the inner chamber and entered the monastery. The sutra says that there are nine successive abidings of meditative absorption, etc., the origin of which is in Shravasti. Monks, the successive abidings of meditative absorption are these nine: having become secluded from desires, secluded from sinful and unwholesome dharmas, with initial and sustained thought, with joy and pleasure born of seclusion, one attains and abides in the first dhyana. This is the first successive abiding of meditative absorption. That initial and sustained thought
