Translation. After reporting this, the Blessed One said to that monk as follows: "Monk, well done! Well done! With virtuous wisdom and excellent wisdom, with wisdom and discernment, by what is this world led? By what is it tamed? By what is it born, and has power over birth? Monk, it is good that you ask me this way. Listen well and keep it in mind, and I will speak. Monk, in this world, the mind leads, the mind completely tames, and the mind has power over its birth and rebirth. What leads and tames this world, and what has power over birth, the noble hearer Arhat does not go nor tame, and does not have power over birth and rebirth. What is the reason for that? Because the noble hearer has power over the mind, and the mind does not have power over him. A happy mind will become equally abiding, just as it was written earlier in the Six Sense Fields Sutra. It should also be quoted as it is stated in the Second Sutra of the Verses of the Condensed Collection of Special Expositions, the Blessed One was staying in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. Then, the Venerable Ananda went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, he reported to the Blessed One as follows: Venerable, what is the purpose of morality? Ananda, it is for the sake of being completely free from suffering. Venerable, what is the purpose of being completely free from suffering? Ananda, it is for the sake of generating joy. Venerable, what is the purpose of generating joy? It is for the sake of generating great joy. Venerable, what is the purpose of great joy? It is for the sake of extreme taming. Venerable, what is the purpose of extreme taming? Ananda, it is for the sake of mental happiness. Venerable, what is the purpose of happiness? Ananda, it is for the sake of the mind abiding in equanimity. Venerable, what is the purpose of Samadhi? It is for the sake of knowing and seeing things as they are.

乐受则心得 Samadhi(梵文天城体:समाधि,梵文罗马拟音:samādhi,汉语字面意思:等持)。阿难陀,心得 Samadhi(梵文天城体:समाधि,梵文罗马拟音:samādhi,汉语字面意思:等持)则如实知,如实见。

Therefore. For what purpose does a monk know and see things as they are? It is for the purpose of eventually becoming disgusted. For what purpose does a monk become disgusted? Ananda, it is for the purpose of eventually being free from attachment. For what purpose is a monk free from attachment? Ananda, it is for the purpose of eventually being completely liberated. For what purpose is a monk completely liberated? Ananda, it is for the purpose of eventually attaining complete Nirvana. Ananda, if one possesses morality, there will be no regret. If there is no regret, joy will arise. If joy arises, great joy will arise. If the body is extremely disciplined, happiness will arise. If happiness is experienced, the mind will be placed in equanimity. Ananda, if the mind is placed in equanimity, one will know things as they truly are, and one will see things as they truly are. If one knows and sees things as they truly are, aversion will arise. If aversion arises, liberation will occur. If liberation occurs, complete Nirvana will be attained. Ananda, this is the nature of Dharma, the cause of Dharma is in harmony. It has become the cause of Dharma in harmony. If one relies on this morality and meditates on it, and practices it many times, one will approach the supreme excellence, until one who has not reached the other shore will reach the other shore. Thus spoke the Blessed One. The faith that is the cause of suffering, and so on. The beginning was in Shravasti. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: Monks, I say that Nirvana also has a cause. Monks, what is the cause of Nirvana? It is called liberation. Monks, I say that liberation also has a cause. Monks, what is the cause of liberation? It is called freedom from attachment. Monks, I say that freedom from
