Initially virtuous, virtuous in the middle, virtuous in the end. Good in meaning, good in wording. As previously stated, the Dharma should be taught, and as I have said, it should be extensively explained. Thus spoke the Blessed One. Brahmin, the eye is the door for seeing forms. Regarding this, from the second verse of the collection of verses gathered from the six sources, the first verse of the collection: Diligence and others, and endowed with correct knowledge, the teeth of ignorance's illusion are completely purified, listening and Katyayana, and the power of various joys. Thus it is said, then the Katyayana Sutra should be recited as follows. Thereafter, the red-robed Brahmin remained silent for a moment and asked the great Katyayana: Katyayana, saying door, door, why say door, door? He replied: Brahmin, well done, well done! The question of door, door, is worthy of being asked. I shall explain the question of the door to you. Brahmin, the eye is the door for seeing forms. The ear is for sound, the nose for smell, the tongue for taste, the body for touch, and the mind is the door for knowing all phenomena. He replied: Katyayana, it is wonderful that you asked the question of door, door, and answered with door, door! The Blessed One also said that one should not be attached to the language of a region. Regarding this, in the first verse of the differentiation, it is explained from three sutras, such as the destruction of the six realms and the six sources: One should not be attached to the language of a region. One should not chase after worldly names. I will briefly explain what I have said. If so, how does one become attached to the language of a region, and how does one chase after worldly names to the extreme? Monks, for example, some people know and understand very well that this same thing is called "Kas". Or it is called "bowl", or it is called "Hishila", or it is called "root", or it is called "Zida", or it is called "container", or it is called "Khambor". However people understand it, they declare and use it truthfully, and they cling to it and name it, believing that only this is the truth, and all others are foolish, thus naming it. Like

It should not be said that this designation is made for the sake of the definition of beings. Similarly, some people think that I am the most knowledgeable, and call it sentient being, nourishment, man, person, power-born, power-son. They declare and speculate in this way, and cling to it, saying, 'Only this is true, and others are foolish.' They call it that way. It should not be said that this designation is made for the purpose of stating the meaning. If so, one will cling to the uncertain words of the people of the region, and it will widely spread in the names of the world. Then, how can one not cling to the definite words of the people of the region, and not widely spread in the names of the world? Monks, for example, for the same thing, some people think and know best to call it Kasi, bowl, Sheshila, root, Chita, container, Khambor. No matter how people know best, they declare and speculate in this way, and cling to it, saying, 'Only this is true, and others are foolish.' Although they call it that way, they make this designation for the sake of the definition of beings. Similarly, some people know best to call it I, sentient being, nourishment, birth, man, person, power-son, power-born, birth. They declare and speculate in this way, and cling to it, saying, 'Only this is true, and others are foolish.' Although they call it that way, they make this designation for the purpose of showing the meaning. Only by these, one will not cling to the definite words of the people of the region, and it will not widely spread in the names of the world. One should not cling to the definite words of the people of the region, and one should not spread in the names of the world. What I have declared has been widely explained. In the sutra, it is said that there are twenty-two roots, etc. The beginning of the story is in Shravasti. Then, the Brahmin Nature heard the Blessed One.

Having approached there, and having approached, together with the Blessed One, having perfectly rejoiced, perfectly delighted, and having spoken various kinds of words that would cause extreme joy, they sat down on one side. They sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Brahmin Svanu-shravana said this to the Blessed One: "If Gautama allows questions, I would like to ask some questions." "Brahmin, ask as you wish." "Gautama, what are the roots, the roots that are spoken of? How many roots are there? How many roots are included by the roots?" "Brahmin, there are twenty-two roots. What are the twenty-two? They are: the root of the eye, the root of the ear, the root of the nose, the root of the tongue, the root of the body, the root of the mind, the root of the female, the root of the male, the root of life, the root of pleasure, the root of pain, the root of mental pleasure, the root of mental displeasure, the root of equanimity, the root of faith, the root of diligence, the root of mindfulness, the root of concentration, the root of wisdom, the root of the faculty of 'I shall know the unknown,' the root of knowledge, and the root of the knower. Brahmin, these twenty-two are called the roots. Only these include the roots." Then, the Brahmin Svanu-shravana was greatly pleased and rejoiced in what the Blessed One had said, and then departed from the feet of the Blessed One. The commentary on the Abhidharma-kosa-sutra, called "Near Need," mostly combines the first chapter with the sutra. From seeing and hearing, abandoning repetition, and so on. As it is said: "A place difficult for those with eyes, like those who can subdue. In this world where the wise live, one should completely abandon all evil deeds. Having heard, one knows all dharmas. Having heard, one transcends all evils. Having heard, one attains nirvana." Thus it is said. As it is said: "At that time, the Gandharva, those two minds subsequently attached," and so on. The subtle, expanded, imputed sixth breath of inhalation and exhalation does not exceed.
