Thus, because this does not exist, birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and disturbance all cease. In this way, this great mass of suffering alone will cease. Monks, for what reason is it said that the noble disciple who possesses learning has thoroughly seen, thoroughly understood, thoroughly contemplated, thoroughly cultivated, and thoroughly known with wisdom, just as it is, the world with its origin and the world with its cessation? The noble disciple understands and sees this holy Dharma, closely understands this holy Dharma, thoroughly understands that this is the holy Dharma, and possesses the wisdom without the perception of this world with the knowledge of learning and the vision of learning, and is the noble renunciation, the thorough renunciation, the most thorough renunciation, and will become the one who has truly exhausted suffering and made an end to suffering. Why is that? Monks, in this way, the noble disciple who possesses learning has thoroughly seen, thoroughly understood, thoroughly contemplated, thoroughly cultivated, and thoroughly known with wisdom, just as it is, the world with its origin and the world with its cessation. Thus, the Buddha spoke. The mind is the basis for grasping at self, therefore it is closely labeled as "I," as it is said: "Oneself is one's own protector, who else will be a protector? If oneself is well tamed, the wise will attain high status. Difficult to grasp and quick to move, it acts wherever it desires. Taming the mind is good, taming the mind leads to happiness." Thus it was said. "The eye sees forms" is quoted from many sutras, such as when the Buddha was once dwelling in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti. Monks, you should always abide in these six things. Which six? Monks, in this case, a monk, having seen forms with the eye, does not become pleased, does not become displeased, and abides in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness. With the ear, sounds; with the nose, smells; with the tongue, tastes.

Having discerned tangible objects with the body and phenomena with the mind, one does not become mentally comfortable, nor does one become mentally uncomfortable. Abiding in equanimity with mindfulness and awareness, therefore, a bhikṣu who constantly abides and is endowed with these six is to be attended to, to be honored, to be paid homage to with folded palms, and to be regarded as the supreme field of merit and the object of offerings in the world, thus it was said. Starting with the eye's consciousness distinguishing forms, quoting from the Sutra Explaining the Many Faults of Desire and the Sutra of the Collection of Six Sources, and so on. For example, the Blessed One was residing in the city of Kurupana Kolamashi. Then, the Blessed One addressed the bhikṣus, saying: Bhikṣus, the Dharma that is good in the beginning, good in the middle, good in the end, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, completely perfect, completely pure, completely cleansed, brahmacarya, completely clarified, will be taught. Like this, the category of Dharma called "Four Chapters," listen well and keep it in mind, and it will be taught. So, what is the category of Dharma called "Four Chapters"? Bhikṣus, the forms that can be recognized by the eye are desirable, pleasing, delightful, agreeable, wanted, and very pleasing. Having seen these, a bhikṣu manifests joy, expresses it, clings to it, and abides with even greater attachment. The forms that can be recognized by the eye are undesirable, displeasing, unpleasing, disagreeable, unwanted, not very pleasing, painful, a disease, discordant, and disagreeable. Having seen these, a bhikṣu hates, is angry, harbors malice, is displeased, is extremely unhappy, and generates anger. This is called a bhikṣu who has fallen under the control of the evil demon and has gone astray. This is called how the evil demon rejoices and is satisfied. This is said to be not liberated from the bonds of the demon and to be under the control of the demon. The Dharma that can be recognized by the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, this
