It is not a place. It is a place, if those five obscurations, which cause mental affliction, weaken wisdom, and become obstacles to attaining Nirvana, are abandoned, then the mind will be well established and abide in the four mindfulnesses, and the seven branches of enlightenment will be cultivated, this is a place. It is not a place and there is no opportunity, if those five obscurations cause mental affliction, weaken wisdom, and do not lead to Nirvana, and the obstacles are not abandoned, and the mind does not abide in the four mindfulnesses and does not practice, and the seven branches of enlightenment are not cultivated, then suffering will be completely ended, this is not a place.

That which causes mental affliction, that which weakens wisdom, that which abandons the category of obstacles to entering nirvana, abiding the mind in the four close placements of mindfulness, cultivating the seven branches of enlightenment, this is the abode of attaining unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Venerable, by this alone, one becomes skilled in what is and what is not. Venerable, if by this alone one becomes skilled in what is and what is not, what is the name of this Dharma discourse? How should it be held? Venerable, therefore, the name of this Dharma discourse should also be held as the Fourth Chapter. It should also be held as the Mirror of Dharma. It should also be held as the Five Amritas. It should also be held as the Sutra of Many Realms. Therefore, in the Sutra of Many Realms, it is said thus. Intermediate summary: The realms are eighteen and four, such as earth and desire, feeling, those, desire, form, and the past, inferior and virtuous realms, learners and non-learners, with outflows and without outflows, conditioned and unconditioned, having done so, in the assembly, truly declared. Declared, here only form, ten with obstruction and with form. Called the sutra that shows the elements individually, what was said before, should be looked for elsewhere. The faculties are without deficiency and not weak, called. How, for a while, in the long sutra, first saying complete decay, like taking out from those. From that sutra, it appears thus: If at all times there is a formless realm, thus after my body is destroyed and dead, I will be born in the formless realm. If at all times there is no formless realm, thus the gods of the form realm, the mind-born, the form-possessing faculties, without deficiency and not weak, limbs, hands, and feet all complete, possessing excellent color, possessing their own light, walking in the sky, eating joy and possessing the food of joy, long-lived and abiding for a long time, when completely decayed, will be born in those places. Those three are called with outflows and without outflows. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. Thereafter, the Bhagavan called out to the monks and taught: Monks, outflows.
