will become a source of joy. Whoever sees it this way, that is the right view; the other is the wrong view. How do those ascetics or Brahmins see and know, examining thoroughly with strength, that this is true, and the other is foolish? Thus, they subsequently apply terminology. Venerable Ananda, those who have abstained from killing, and up to those who are not defiled by wrong views and have become separated, falling into bad destinies, bad migrations, and wrong views, those who are born in the hells of sentient beings, the ascetics of external heretics, or Brahmins, having seen with the divine eye and the knowledge of others' minds, think thus: "The body has not been well practiced. There is no ripening of the well-practiced body. Speech and mind have not been well practiced. There is no ripening of the well-practiced speech and mind. This sentient being has abstained from killing, and up to being not defiled by wrong views and having become separated, after the body breaks and dies, falling into bad destinies, bad migrations, and wrong views, I have seen them born in the hells of sentient beings. Others who have not abstained from killing, and up to being defiled by wrong views and not having become separated, will also be born in bad destinies, bad migrations, and wrong views, in the hells of sentient beings.

Between severance, after the body disintegrates and death occurs, falling into evil destinies, falling into hell, I have seen beings born in the hells. Other beings, from not abstaining from killing, to being defiled by wrong views and not abstaining, will fall into evil destinies and evil paths, and beings will be born in the hells. Seeing in this way is right view, and other views are wrong. How do those virtuous practitioners or Brahmins see, and how do they discern with the power of wisdom, and then label it as "this is true, and the other is foolishness." Ananda, those who have abstained from killing, and are not defiled and abstained from wrong views, after the body disintegrates and death occurs, are born in the good destinies and heavenly realms. The non-Buddhist practitioners or Brahmins, seeing with divine eyes and knowing the minds of others, think thus: there is good conduct with the body, there is the fruition of good conduct with the body, there is good conduct with speech and mind, there is the fruition of good conduct with speech and mind. This being, from abstaining from killing, to not being defiled and abstaining from wrong views, after the body disintegrates and death occurs, is born in the good destinies and heavenly realms, I have seen. Other beings, from abstaining from killing, to being defiled and abstaining from wrong views, will be born in the good destinies and heavenly realms. Seeing in this way is right view, and other views are wrong. How do those virtuous practitioners or Brahmins see, and how do they discern with the power of wisdom, and then label it as "this is true, and the other is foolishness." Ananda, those virtuous practitioners or Brahmins are ignorant and unknowing, there is no evil conduct of the body, there is no fruition of evil conduct of the body, there is no evil conduct of speech and mind, there is no fruition of evil conduct of speech and mind, they see thus and speak thus, I do not approve. Any being, from not abstaining from killing, to wrong views

I would not approve of someone saying, 'Because he was defiled by wrong views and had not separated from them, after his body broke down at death, I saw that he was born in a good destination, a heavenly world.' I would not approve of someone saying, 'Even if he has not separated from killing and so on, but is defiled by wrong views and has not separated from them, he will be born in a good destination, a heavenly world.' I would not approve of someone saying, 'Seeing it this way is correct; other knowledge is wrong knowledge.' I would not approve of any renunciate or brahmin who, having discerned with the power of how they see and how they know, subsequently applies terminology, saying, 'This alone is true; the other is delusion.' Why is that, Ananda? Because the Thus-Gone One knows the faculties and awareness of that person in a different way, and he knows the arising of all future phenomena in a different way. Ananda, therefore, he should not think that a certain renunciate or brahmin has not practiced well with the body, that there is no ripening of having practiced well with the body, that he has not practiced well with speech and mind, that there is no ripening of having practiced well with speech and mind. I would not approve of seeing it this way and speaking in this way. I would not approve of someone saying, 'This being has separated from killing and so on, until he is not defiled by wrong views and has separated from them, and after his body broke down at death, I saw that he was born in a bad destination, a bad migration, a place of downfall, among the hell beings.' I would not approve of someone saying, 'Even if others have not separated from killing and so on, until they are not defiled by wrong views and have separated from them, they will be born in a bad destination, a bad migration, a place of downfall, among the hell beings.'
