Translation completed. Then, the venerable Mahākoṣṭhila extensively reported to the Blessed One all the other conversations between the venerable Smṛti and the wandering Parivrājaka Poṭaliputra. The Blessed One said to the venerable Ānanda: Ānanda, observe the monk Smṛti, who is distinguishing and predicting karma. He has made a one-sided prediction to the question asked. Then, the venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: Venerable, the venerable Smṛti, thinking that whatever is felt is all suffering, explained it to the wandering Parivrājaka Poṭaliputra, which is justified and opportune. Exhorter, observe the thought of the monk Ānanda. If I do not correctly remember the wandering Parivrājaka Poṭaliputra, let alone having such an intermittent conversation with him. Venerable, how can the venerable Smṛti make a prediction to the question asked by the wandering Parivrājaka Poṭaliputra, so that it can be considered a correct prediction? Ānanda, if the monk Smṛti makes such a prediction to the question asked by the wandering Parivrājaka Poṭaliputra, then it will be a correct prediction: Poṭaliputra, if one deliberately creates and accumulates karma, one will experience happiness. If one deliberately creates and accumulates karma that leads to suffering, one will experience suffering. If one deliberately creates and accumulates karma that is neither painful nor pleasant, one will experience a feeling that is neither pleasant nor painful. Ānanda, the wandering Parivrājaka Poṭaliputra asked the monk Smṛti a question based on three kinds of feelings, and the monk Smṛti one-sidedly predicted that whatever is felt is all suffering. Venerable, it is wonderful that the Blessed One fully understands the mind of the venerable Smṛti! Ānanda, what is so wonderful about the Tathāgata fully understanding this? Ānanda, listen, I will declare the Dharma category called "Great Karma Differentiation" spoken by the Tathāgata. Have complete faith in me! Generate complete faith, and with great faith, do more things.

Yes, the time has come. Blessed One, the time for passing into peace has come, Sugata, the time for passing into peace has come. If the Blessed One would explain to the monks the category of the Great Discourse on the Discrimination of Actions, the monks, having heard it from the Blessed One, would hold it well. Therefore, Ananda, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will speak. Ananda, here, some people are constantly engaged in killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, greed, harmful thoughts, and are defiled and not separated from wrong views. These people, after the destruction of the body and death, may also be born in a good rebirth, in the heavenly realms. Furthermore, Ananda, here, some people have separated from killing, taking what is not given, lying, divisive speech, harsh speech, idle chatter, greed, harmful thoughts, and wrong views, and are not defiled by these. These people, after the destruction of the body and death, may also be born in a bad rebirth, a bad destination, a place of wrong falling, in the hells of sentient beings. Furthermore, Ananda, here, some people have separated from killing, up to being separated from wrong views and not defiled by these, and after the destruction of the body and death, may also be born in a good rebirth, in the heavenly world. Ananda, those who are constantly engaged in killing, up to being accumulated by wrong views and not separated from them, are born in a good rebirth, in the heavenly world. When these are seen by outside heretical practitioners or Brahmins with divine eyes and knowledge of others' minds, they think: 'The body has not committed evil deeds, there is no ripening of the consequences of the body committing evil deeds, speech and mind have not committed evil deeds, there is no ripening of the consequences of speech and mind committing evil deeds. I have seen this person constantly engaged in killing, not separated from it, accumulated by wrong views, not separated from it, and after the destruction of the body and death, born in a good rebirth, in the heavenly world. Furthermore, even those who are constantly engaged in killing, accumulated by wrong views and not separated from them, can be born in a good rebirth, in the heavenly world.'
