Because of not eating meat. (Monks), whatever that king gives alms to sixty thousand cities for sixty thousand years, it is not even close to one percent of the alms given by Shariputra to this monk. Thus, it is explained extensively. This is called the eighth (chapter). The setting is in Shravasti. There are eight kinds of alms. What are the eight? Giving to relatives, giving out of fear, giving for oneself, giving because it will be for oneself, giving because one's parents and ancestors gave before, giving for the sake of heaven, giving for the sake of fame, for the adornment of the mind, for the equipment of the mind, for the collection of yoga, and giving in order to obtain the supreme meaning. Among them, if giving is for the sake of the adornment of the mind, for the equipment of the mind and the excellence of yoga, and for the sake of obtaining the supreme meaning, this is called the supreme alms, called the principal, called the highest. For example, from milk comes cheese, from cheese comes yogurt, from yogurt comes fresh butter, from fresh butter comes butter, and from butter comes the essence of butter, which is called the supreme, called the principal, called the highest. Similarly, if it is for the sake of the adornment of the mind, for the sake of the equipment of the mind, etc., as before, it is called the highest, until (the end of the sentence). Why is that? If one gives alms of this kind of nature, the mind will become very clear. From the mind becoming very clear, joy will arise. From joy, great joy will arise. From great joy, body and mind will become very pliable. If body and mind are very pliable, one will experience happiness. From happiness, the mind will become equally abiding. If the mind abides equally, one will know reality as it is and see reality as it is. If one knows reality as it is and sees reality as it is, one will become disgusted. If one becomes disgusted, one will be free from desire. If one is free from desire, one will be liberated. If one is liberated, one will see the wisdom of complete liberation, my birth

It is exhausted. The Brahmachariya has been practiced. What should be done has been done. It will be that there is no other existence known beyond this. Because when it is timely and upright, with manifold perfections, and one gives without stinginess, the benefactor will become a great fruit. Saying, 'The giving is well given,' the mind becomes exceedingly pleased. For the wise whose minds are exceedingly pleased, true joy will arise. From that joy, great joy arises. With great joy, body and mind, extreme pliancy arises. The mindful, extremely pliant one will truly experience bliss. With a blissful mind in samadhi, the mind will abide in one-pointedness. As the mind abides in equanimity, one will truly know and see. Having truly seen, disgust will arise in the body. The mindful one who is disgusted with the body will truly be free from desire. From desire, hatred, and delusion, the wise who are free from desire will well practice Brahmachariya and will see that my birth is exhausted. There is no other existence known beyond this, thus it becomes a great praise. Whoever abides with the absence of signs will attain the immovable state. Thus it was said. As it is said in the sutra, these four persons are those who increase the merit of Brahma. The Blessed One was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Park in Shravasti. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: These four persons are those who increase the merit of Brahma. Which four? Whoever establishes a stupa with the relics of the Tathagata in a place where it has not been done before, this person is the first to increase the merit of Brahma. Furthermore, whoever establishes a monastery for the Sangha of monks of the four directions in a place where it has not been done before, this person is the second to increase the merit of Brahma. Furthermore, whoever reconciles the Sangha of the Tathagata's Shravakas, this person is the third to increase the merit of Brahma. Furthermore, whoever with a mind imbued with loving-kindness, without enmity, without hostility, without harm, vast and expansive

Immeasurable. Having cultivated it well, making it pervade one direction, thus cultivating and abiding. Likewise, the second, likewise the third, likewise the fourth, above, below, and to all the worlds of the sides, with a mind of loving-kindness, without enmity, without rivalry, without harm, vast, extensive, immeasurable, having cultivated it well, making it pervade one direction, thus cultivating and abiding. Likewise, a mind accompanied by compassion, joy, and equanimity, as it is said, and as before, this person is the fourth who generates the merit of Brahma, as it is said. The Dharma gift is not afflicted. And so on. The setting is in Shravasti. There are two kinds of giving: the giving of Dharma and the giving of material things. This giving is small, namely the giving of material things. This giving is supreme, namely the giving of Dharma, as it is said. In the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha, "Near Use," the fourth dwelling place is mostly in agreement with the Sutra Pitaka, completed. Here some say that they are completely entangled by the desire for desire, the setting is in Shravasti. Then, the Blessed One called to the monks: Monks, I will explain to you the five pervasive practices that are in accordance with the final part, you should listen carefully. At that time, the venerable Mchod-byed-kyi-ma-can (Worthy Mother) was dwelling in the midst of the assembled sangha. Then, the venerable Mchod-byed-kyi-ma-can rose from her seat, arranged her upper robe on one shoulder, and, with her palms joined, bowed to the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Venerable, I have taken hold of the five pervasive practices that are in accordance with the final part of the Blessed One's teachings. Mchod-byed-kyi-ma-can, how have you taken hold of the five pervasive practices that are in accordance with the final part that I have taught? Venerable, desire for desire is a pervasive practice that is in accordance with the final part, as the Blessed One has said, I have taken hold of it. Venerable, harmful thoughts, the view of the perishable aggregate, and ethical conduct and discipline
