To contemplate external white forms, manifesting as white, white, like white light, to contemplate the arising light, this is the eighth overcoming base. As for the other four bases, such as the infinity of space, the setting is in Shravasti. Monks, these four bases are: the base of infinite space, the base of infinite consciousness, the base of nothingness, and the base of neither perception nor non-perception. These bases should be observed from the section classification of the second 'Immediately After That' Sutra. Regarding the five liberation bases, the setting is in Shravasti. Monks, there are five liberation bases. What are the five? Monks, here, the teacher or the practitioner of pure conduct, whether it is the position of a skilled master, will teach the Dharma. However the teacher or the practitioner of pure conduct, whether it is the position of a skilled master, teaches the Dharma, in that way one can correctly understand the individual meanings of the Dharmas, and can also correctly understand each Dharma. Correctly understanding each meaning will give rise to joy in correctly understanding each Dharma. Great joy will arise from joy. When the mind is joyful, the body will become very pliant. When the body is very pliant, one will experience happiness. Experiencing happiness, one will enter into Samadhi. Entering into Samadhi, one will know as it is, and one will also see as it is. Knowing as it is and seeing as it is, one will feel aversion. Aversion will lead to detachment from desire. Detachment from desire will lead to liberation. This is the first liberation base. From this, the mindfulness of a monk or nun that does not abide closely, will abide closely. A mind that is not in Samadhi, will enter into Samadhi. Defilements that are not completely exhausted, will be completely exhausted, thereby attaining the achievement of Nirvana that has not been attained and unsurpassed bliss. Furthermore, monks, the teacher or the practitioner of pure conduct, whether it is the position of a skilled master, will teach the Dharma.

Although not doing so, one extensively recites the Dharma classes as heard, seen, and obtained. As one extensively recites the Dharma classes as heard, seen, and realized, one will thoroughly understand the individual meanings of the Dharma classes. Having thoroughly understood each Dharma and thoroughly understood each meaning, joy will arise from thoroughly understanding each Dharma and thoroughly understanding each meaning. From joy to the arising of great joy, up to the separation from desire and liberation. This is the second source of liberation. For a monk or nun, if their mindfulness is not established, it will be established; if the mind is not calmed, it will be calmed; if the defilements are not completely exhausted, they will be completely exhausted, thereby attaining the unobtained cessation of suffering and supreme bliss. Furthermore, a monk does not act as a teacher, nor as any other Dharma speaker like a master skilled in pure conduct, nor does he extensively recite the Dharma classes as heard, realized, and comprehended. Instead, he clearly explains the Dharma classes as heard, realized, and comprehended to others. As he extensively and thoroughly explains the Dharma classes as heard, realized, and comprehended to others, they will understand the individual meanings of the Dharma classes and understand each Dharma. Having understood each meaning and thoroughly understood each Dharma, they will experience great joy, leading to separation from desire and liberation. This is the third source of liberation. For a monk or nun who dwells in this state, if their mindfulness is not established, it will be established; if the mind is not calmed, it will be calmed; if the defilements are not completely exhausted, they will be completely exhausted, thereby attaining the unobtained cessation of suffering and supreme solitude. Furthermore, a monk does not act as a teacher, nor as any other Dharma speaker skilled in pure conduct, nor does he teach the Dharma, as heard, realized, and comprehended.
