Can this place filled with people be destroyed, decayed, impoverished by meaninglessness, and reduced to ashes by a moment's anger? Gautama, the ascetic of the outer heretics, who possesses magical powers and has gained control over his mind, could burn down Nalendra and a part of villages and cities, and even a part of one region and another region with just a little anger. What need is there to mention Nalendra, which is like a corpse? Householder, if you proclaim "made by mind, made by mind," then the former and the latter are inconsistent, and the latter is inconsistent with the former. Such a nature is spoken of within the assembly: all misdeeds of the body are great offenses, but misdeeds of speech and misdeeds of mind are not so. What can misdeeds of speech, which are like corpses, and misdeeds of mind, which are like corpses, do? Therefore, starting from the misdeeds of the body, only the gross aspect is shown. Householder, have you heard from anyone that the monastery of the wealthy, the monastery of Kalingka, and the monastery of Matangka have become empty and desolate? Gautama, I have heard. How did the monastery of the wealthy, the monastery of Kalingka, and the monastery of Matangka become empty and desolate? When he was asked that, the householder Nyevako remained silent. Then, the Blessed One said this to the householder Nyevako: Householder, speak! Speak! Why are you silent? Such a nature is spoken of within the assembly: When Gautama and I discuss intermediate topics together, does Gautama think that I am truthful, able to endure, and not angry, and therefore remain silent? Gautama, I am thinking about this very matter, and therefore I am silent. Just as now, I have been deceived for a long time by the naked heretics, children, ignorant, unclear, and unwise people. They have obscured me and caused me to be confused, saying this: All misdeeds of the body are great offenses, but misdeeds of speech and misdeeds of mind are not so. Misdeeds of speech are like corpses, and misdeeds of mind are like corpses.

What will happen by acting wrongly with the body? This is said in relation to acting wrongly with the body, showing the gross faults. It is heard that the sages Gautama and others became like that because they were angry. From then on, great faith arose in Gautama. Regarding the fact that wrong view is a great fault, the origin is in Shravasti. Monks, the view of non-existence is a great fault. Why is that? Because the bodily actions of a person with wrong views, as well as the actions of speech and mind, and the meaning pursued, the wishes, and all the Dharma practices that follow, will all accomplish unwanted results, bringing unpleasantness, displeasure, unloveliness, disagreeableness, and extreme displeasure. Why is that? Because that view is sinful, that is, wrong view. For example, if the seeds of neem, or the seeds of Kuva Khandema, or the seeds of Kesata, are planted in good and fertile soil, then whatever essence of the soil is taken by the soil, the water by the water, the fire by the fire, and the wind by the wind, then all of them will become bitter, pungent, and tasteless. Why is that? Because these seeds themselves are bitter, pungent, and tasteless. Similarly, wrong view is the greatest of all faults. The bodily actions of a person with wrong views, as well as the actions of speech and mind, and the meaning pursued, the wishes, and all the Dharma practices that correspond to them, will all accomplish unwanted results, bringing unpleasantness, displeasure, unloveliness, and disagreeableness, and accomplishing extreme displeasure. Why is that? Because that view is sinful, that is, wrong view. Monks, right view is the highest of all faultless things. Why is that? Because the bodily actions of a person with right view, as well as the actions of speech and mind, and the meaning pursued for that purpose, the wishes, and all the Dharma practices that correspond to them, will all accomplish the desired results, bringing pleasantness, joy, loveliness, and agreeableness.
