From "Venerable One, please explain the Dharma to me in brief" to "I know nothing other than this existence." After this request, the Blessed One said to the venerable Offering Mother: Offering Mother, you are old and advanced in years, if you want to hear a brief teaching from me, what will these newly ordained ones who are not yet familiar with the Dharma and discipline do? Venerable One, although I am old and frail, I still want to hear a brief teaching from the Blessed One. From "Venerable One, please explain the Dharma to me in brief" to "I know nothing other than this existence." The venerable Offering Mother made this request to the Blessed One two or three times, and the Blessed One said to the venerable Offering Mother: You are old and frail, if you want to hear a brief teaching from me, what will these newly ordained ones who are not yet familiar with the Dharma and discipline do? The venerable Offering Mother again made this request to the Blessed One two or three times: Venerable One, although I am old and frail, I still want to hear a teaching from the Blessed One, please explain the Dharma to me in brief, from "Venerable One, please explain the Dharma to me in brief" to "I know nothing other than this existence." The Blessed One said: Offering Mother, you have not understood this point three times, Offering Mother, therefore I will ask you, please answer truthfully. Offering Mother, what do you think? Your eyes have not seen objects, and you have not seen them before, if you have not seen them, will you hope, crave, cling, like, be infatuated with, or be even more infatuated with, thinking that you should see such things? Venerable One, no. Offering Mother, what do you think? Your ears hear sounds, your nose smells odors, your tongue tastes flavors, your body touches sensations

Ya, and if the mind does not fully understand any dharma, and has not previously fully understood it, if it does not fully understand, then, from that basis, would you desire, be attached to, be infatuated with, delight in, be fond of, or generate a stronger attachment, thinking, 'I shall fully understand such a thing'? Bhikshu, no. Mother of offerings, good, good! Seeing in this way is just seeing, hearing is just hearing, distinguishing is just distinguishing, fully understanding is just fully understanding. Mother of offerings, because of what, you are not that, because of what, you are not that, that is not you, this is not, in between is not, this itself is called the cessation of suffering. World-Honored One, fully understood. Sugata, fully understood. Mother of offerings, I have spoken briefly, without explaining in detail, how can one understand the meaning in detail? Then, at that time, the venerable Mother of Offerings spoke this verse: Having seen forms, losing mindfulness, thinking of the cause of flowing, the mind is completely stained by desire, and is more attached to and abides in it, therefore it is not self-nature. Feelings arise and occur, due to greed and hatred, the mind is completely destroyed. When accumulating forms, it is said that Nirvana is far away. Close relatives say that Nirvana is not with love. For form, not appearing pleased, having seen forms, having mindfulness, the mind will not be stained by desire, therefore it will not be more attached, therefore it is not self-nature, rain will not arise and occur, due to greed and hatred, this mind will not be completely destroyed. If not accumulating forms, it is said to be Nirvana. The relative of the sun said that the exhaustion of love is Nirvana. Similarly, if seeing how form and feeling exist, exhausting and not accumulating, similarly acting with mindfulness. Similarly, sounds and smells, tastes and touches, and dharmas, having seen them, losing mindfulness, thinking of the cause of joy, the mind is completely intoxicated by desire, for this

Especially attached, to that which is not self-nature, all feelings arise and occur, with greed and malice, this mind is utterly destroyed, because of approaching the Dharma, it is said that Nirvana is far away, having desire is not Nirvana, the Kinsman of the Sun thus spoke. Not delighting in the Dharma, seeing all Dharmas with mindfulness, the mind will not be truly stained, not especially stained to that, from that which is not self-nature, all feelings do not arise and are not born, with greed and malice, this mind is not destroyed, not approaching the Dharmas, it is said to be Nirvana, the exhaustion of desire is called Nirvana, the Kinsman of the Sun thus spoke. Form and likewise feeling, seeing as they abide, because of exhaustion and not approaching, thus practicing with mindfulness. Bhikshus, thus I understand the meaning of what the Blessed One has briefly spoken without elaborating. Well done, well done, Mother of Offering! Mother of Offering, it is well that you know the meaning of what I have briefly spoken without elaborating. Why is that? Because seeing all forms, etc., thus practicing with mindfulness, these verses are the extensive explanation. Thereafter, the venerable Mother of Offering, etc., went to the place of the Blessed One. Thereafter, the venerable Mother of Offering, having heard the condensed instruction from the Blessed One, became an Arhat with a completely liberated mind. In the Sutra, it says, "Having made desire subject to the power of desire." Like the collection of discipline, like the Sutra of the Three Staffs, etc. This is in accordance with the collection of noble discipline, this can guard the doors of the senses, and possesses right mindfulness and right knowledge, relying on a secluded bed and seat, or dwelling in a hermitage, or under a tree, or in an empty room. He goes to a hermitage, or under a tree, or in an empty room, sits in the lotus position, straightening his body, establishing mindfulness before him and abiding.
