It appears unreal, it appears false, deceptive, hollow. It appears to be without essence, to be a disease, a sore, a pain, to be impermanent, to be suffering, to be empty, to be without self. Why is that? Because there is nothing in the form aggregate. Monks, for example, when a great rain falls, bubbles arise from the water, arising and ceasing. A person with eyes sees it, thinks about it, and reflects on it properly. He sees it, thinks about it, and reflects on it properly, it appears unreal, it appears false, deceptive, hollow. Why is that? Because there is no essence whatsoever in a water bubble. Monks, likewise, feeling, whatever it may be, whether past, future, or present, whether internal or external, whether gross or subtle, whether inferior or superior, whether far or near, monks see them, think about them, and reflect on them properly. He sees them, thinks about them, and reflects on them properly, they appear unreal, they appear false, deceptive, hollow, to be a disease, a sore, a pain, to be harmful, to be impermanent, to be suffering, to be empty, to be without self. Why is that? Because there is no essence whatsoever in the feeling aggregate. Monks, for example, when the height of summer arrives, the sky is without clouds, and at noon the mirage shimmers in the desert. A person with eyes sees it, thinks about it, and reflects on it properly. He sees it, thinks about it, and reflects on it properly, it appears unreal, it appears false, deceptive, hollow. Why is that? Because there is no essence whatsoever in a mirage. Monks, likewise, perception, whatever it may be, whether past, future, or present, whether internal or external, whether gross or subtle, whether inferior or superior, whether far or near, monks see them, think about them, and reflect on them properly. He sees them, thinks about them, and reflects on them properly, they appear unreal, they appear false, deceptive, hollow, to be a disease, a sore, a pain, to be harmful, to be impermanent, to be suffering, to be empty, to be without self.

. Why is that? Because the aggregate of perception has no essence whatsoever. Monks, it is like this: a person with eyes, seeking essence and searching for essence, takes a sharp axe and enters the forest. He sees a large trunk of a banana tree, well-grown and not rough, and he cuts it from the root and peels off the leaves one by one. He does not even see a fruit on it, let alone the heartwood. The person with eyes sees it, thinks about it, and examines it properly. When he sees it, thinks about it, and examines it properly, it appears untrue, false, deceptive, and empty. Why is that? Because the banana tree has no essence whatsoever. Monks, likewise, any formations whatsoever, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, coarse or subtle, inferior or superior, far or near. Monks, you see them, think about them, and examine them properly. When you see them, think about them, and examine them properly, they appear untrue, false, deceptive, empty, and the root of disease, sores, wounds, and suffering. They appear impermanent, suffering, empty, and without self. Why is that? Because the aggregate of formations has no essence whatsoever. Monks, it is like this: a magician or a skilled disciple of a magician sits at a great crossroads and conjures up various illusions, such as a crowd of elephants, a cavalry, a chariot procession, and an infantry. A person with eyes sees them, and having seen them, thinks about them and examines them properly. When he sees them, thinks about them, and examines them properly, they appear untrue, false, deceptive, and empty. Why is that? Because illusions have no essence whatsoever. Monks, likewise, any consciousness whatsoever, whether past, future, or present, internal or external, coarse or subtle, inferior or superior, near or far. Monks, you see them, think about them, and examine them properly. You see and think

, if properly examined, it appears as untrue, false, deceptive, accumulating, disease, tumor, suffering, and harmful, and it appears as impermanent, suffering, empty, and selfless. Why is that? Because there is no essence in the aggregate of consciousness. The Blessed One thus taught, and the Sugata thus declared. The Teacher further taught: Form is like a bubble and foam, feeling is like a bubble on water, perception is like a mirage, formation is like a banana tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. The Kinsman of the Sun (Buddha) thus taught. How, how properly, thoroughly examine and scrutinize, then it appears as arising and destruction, deception and accumulation. For those of inferior wisdom, these aggregates have not been shown. If these three dharmas are completely abandoned, then one will be separated from the body and abandoned. When life, warmth, and consciousness abandon this body, after abandoning it, the state in which it is, is like a mindless piece of wood. Here, these similar continuums are like illusions deceiving children, they are the pain that causes harm, they are merely false conceit. Bhikshus, therefore, thoroughly examine the aggregates and strive diligently. If day and night, you have mindfulness and awareness, then you will realize the peaceful and extremely peaceful, state. The Blessed One thus taught, and the bhikshus were delighted and greatly rejoiced in what the Blessed One had said. These verses were previously written in the Sutra of the Bhikshuni Dharma Giving. Even so, these words of the Blessed One are close to the source example of the Sutra. Called sixteen words, one is missing from the Sutra. The summary verses of the first door of the eighth section of the eighth chapter, the seventh, tenth, and eleventh sutras, are recited in the order in which they are shown. Called the Sutra Speaker, the beginning is in Shravasti. Then, the one with power, the mother with offerings, arose from meditation in the meditation hall, went near to where the Blessed One was, and having approached, spoke thus to the Blessed One: Blessed One
