Focusing on suffering as suffering, on the origin as the origin, on cessation as cessation, and on the path as the path, abandoning the three types of bodily misconduct that lead to wrong feelings, and separately examining other bodily misconduct and speech, up to the point of being without outflows, separated, extremely separated, completely separated, and perfectly extinguished. This is called the edge of the noble transcendent right action, which is the source of being without outflows, without grasping, the exhaustion of suffering, and the end of suffering. What is right livelihood? Right livelihood is of two types: there is worldly right livelihood, which is with outflows, with grasping, and accomplishes good destinies; and there is transcendent right livelihood, which is without outflows, without grasping, and brings about the cessation of suffering. What is worldly right livelihood, which is with outflows, with grasping, and accomplishes good destinies? It is that which, having separately examined, seeks Dharma robes and the like in accordance with the Dharma, but does not seek them in a way that is not in accordance with the Dharma. It seeks bedding, cushions, medicine for sickness, and the necessities of life in accordance with the Dharma, but does not seek them in a way that is not in accordance with the Dharma. This is called worldly right livelihood, which is with outflows, with grasping, and accomplishes good destinies. What is transcendent right livelihood, which is without outflows, without grasping, and brings about the exhaustion of suffering? It is that in which a noble hearer focuses on suffering as suffering, on the origin as the origin, on cessation as cessation, and on the path as the path, without separately examining wrong livelihood, from being without outflows and separated, extremely separated, and so forth, up to perfect extinction. This is called transcendent right livelihood, which is without outflows, without grasping, and brings about the exhaustion of suffering. What is right effort? Right effort is of two types: there is worldly right effort, which is with outflows, with grasping, and accomplishes good destinies. There is also transcendent

There is also right effort that transcends the world, which is without outflows, without grasping, and which causes suffering to cease and leads to the end of suffering. What is worldly right effort, which is with outflows, with grasping, and which accomplishes happy migrations? It is whatever desire, diligence, effort, harm, oppression of others, steadfastness, commencement, joy, dissatisfaction, right mental focus, and constant practice are. This is called worldly right effort, which is with outflows, with grasping, and which accomplishes happy migrations.

Regarding cessation, one contemplates cessation; regarding the path, one contemplates the path. With uncontaminated attention and proper attention, from 'desire' to 'constant practice.' This is the noble, transcendent mindfulness, uncontaminated and without grasping, which causes suffering to cease and brings suffering to an end. What is right concentration? Right concentration is of two kinds: There is worldly right concentration, which is contaminated and involves grasping, and which accomplishes happy migrations. There is also noble, transcendent right concentration, which is uncontaminated and without grasping, and which causes suffering to cease and brings suffering to an end. What is worldly right concentration, which is contaminated and involves grasping, and which accomplishes happy migrations? It is when the mind abides, abides correctly, abides well, abides completely, abides closely, when the mind is not distracted, when the mind is gathered in tranquility, and when the mind is one-pointed in samadhi. This is worldly right concentration, which is contaminated and accomplishes happy migrations. What is noble, transcendent right concentration, which is uncontaminated and without grasping, and which causes suffering to cease and brings suffering to an end? It is when a noble disciple contemplates suffering as suffering, contemplates arising as arising, contemplates cessation as cessation, contemplates the path as the path, with uncontaminated attention and proper attention, when the mind abides, abides correctly, abides well, abides completely, abides closely, when the mind is not distracted, when the mind is gathered in tranquility, and when the mind is one-pointed in samadhi. This is the noble, transcendent right concentration, which is uncontaminated and without grasping, and which causes suffering to cease and brings suffering to an end. This is what is called wrongness and rightness. Monks, I have taught what is wrongness and rightness. As I have said, explain it extensively and thoroughly. Thus spoke the Blessed One. As it is said in the sutra, what are the outflows?
