When explaining these, listen well, keep them in mind, and I will explain. What is evil? It is wrong view, wrong thought, wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong mindfulness, and wrong concentration. This is called evil. What is right? It is like this: right view, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. What is right view? Right view is of two kinds: there is worldly right view, which has defilements and grasping, and which accomplishes happiness; and there is transcendental right view, which is without defilements and grasping, and which truly exhausts suffering and accomplishes the end of suffering. What is worldly right view, which has defilements and grasping, and which accomplishes happiness? It is the view that there is giving, there is offering, there is good conduct, there is bad conduct, there is the ripening of the fruits of good and bad conduct, this world exists, the next world exists, father exists, mother exists, there are beings who arise spontaneously, there are Arhats in the world, there is correct conduct and correct thought. This view is the worldly view. Like this, for all phenomena, one knows directly by oneself, what needs to be directly realized is complete, fully understood, that is, birth is exhausted, the holy life has been lived, what needed to be done has been done, there is no other existence. This is worldly right view, which has defilements and grasping, and which accomplishes happiness. What is transcendental right view, which is without defilements and grasping, and which exhausts suffering and accomplishes the end of suffering? It is that here, a noble disciple regards suffering as suffering, regards the origin as the origin, regards cessation as cessation, and regards the path as the path, thus attending to them, attending to them without defilements.
