Monks, this sentient being was formerly a prostitute in the city of Varanasi, and she invited the Hearer of the Perfectly and Completely Awakened Buddha Light with improper means, but he did not accept. She was displeased and angry, and sprinkled boiling water of rotten corpses. From that, its karmic result ripened, ending with "It should be understood in this way." Venerable Laksmana, I see a sentient being whose upper body is burning, blazing intensely, becoming a single burning mass, which destroys everything, rises upwards from the sky, and utters cries of supplication. Extensively, monks, this sentient being was formerly the queen of King Kṛkī in the city of Varanasi. She, together with the women, discovered the residence of King Kṛkī. She was displeased and sprinkled burning sesame seeds there. From that, its karmic result ripened, ending with "It should be understood in this way." Venerable Laksmana, I see a sentient being submerged in impurity, surrounded by impurity on all sides, front, back, and sides. Eating impurity as food, uttering cries of supplication. Extensively, monks, this sentient being was formerly a Brahmin priest of King Kṛkī in the city of Varanasi. He invited the Hearer of the Perfectly and Completely Awakened Buddha Light for food, and covered the food with a vessel filled with impurity. Until the end of time, some would vomit, and others would not find it. Then, from outside, he said, "O noble ones, please partake of and enjoy these delicious foods." Therefore, he decided that it should not be used until this suddenly arrived monk had left, and he acted accordingly. Venerable Laksmana, I see a sentient being burning like seven iron balls, intensely burning, blazing into one, arising and entering from the body, rising upwards from the sky, uttering cries of lamentation. From what is called "Uttering Cries of Lamentation," extensively, monks, this sentient being was previously a novice in the teachings of the perfectly and completely enlightened Buddha Kāśyapa. At that time, the monastic community obtained seven Jambudvipa fruits, and he appropriated them with a deceitful mind.
