Dislike, displeasure, discomfort, not encompassed by desire, not generating extreme joy, having obtained what was not obtained, separated from previous desires, not possessing decline, being of the nature of change, recollecting and giving rise to discomfort, such is called discomfort based on attachment. What is discomfort based on definite arising? It means that all phenomena are impermanent, changing, free from attachment, extinguished, and peaceful. Thus, knowing that all phenomena, past and present, are impermanent, painful, and of the nature of change, one generates desire for supreme liberation, and (thinks) when will I realize the supreme state of existence, realize the state of existence of the noble ones and abide therein? Thus, generating desire for unsurpassed liberation and giving rise to discomfort, this is called discomfort based on definite arising. What are the six kinds of equanimity based on attachment? It means equanimity towards forms cognized by the eye. Equanimity is also of two kinds: based on attachment and based on manifestation. What is equanimity based on attachment? It means that monks, those who are untaught ordinary beings, are equanimous towards forms, and are attached to forms, rely on forms, do not abandon forms, and realize forms. Such is called equanimity towards forms based on attachment. What is equanimity based on definite arising? It means that form is impermanent, changing, free from attachment, extinguished, peaceful, and decaying. Thus, knowing that all forms, past and present, are impermanent and of the nature of change, one individually examines and, having individually examined, practices equanimity. This is called equanimity based on definite arising. Based on the phenomena cognized by the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, equanimity will also arise. Equanimity is also of two kinds: based on attachment and based on manifestation. What is equanimity based on attachment? It means that monks, those who are untaught ordinary beings, are equanimous towards phenomena

And clinging to the Dharma, relying on the Dharma and not abandoning the Dharma, manifesting the Dharma in this way is called relying on abandoning the Dharma. What is relying on the inevitable arising of abandonment? The Dharma is impermanent, completely changing, free from desire, cessation, and pacification. Knowing that all past and present Dharmas are of the nature of impermanence and complete change, one examines them separately, and after examining them separately, one abandons them. This is called relying on the inevitable arising of abandonment. Monks, in this regard, there are six kinds of clinging that rely on pleasant feelings, six kinds of clinging that rely on unpleasant feelings, six kinds of inevitable arising that rely on pleasant feelings, six kinds of inevitable arising that rely on unpleasant feelings, six kinds of clinging that rely on neutral feelings, and six kinds of inevitable arising that rely on neutral feelings. In summary, they are the thirty-six teachings of the Blessed One. These thirty-six teachings of the Blessed One should be understood as the inner nature, and the meaning of what was said is widely elaborated. All sentient beings exist by food, which is a statement from the Sutra. The Sutra statement refers to the sixth part, the Sutra statement about aspects of conduct. What are the foods? The basis of the discussion is in Shravasti. Monks, these four foods enable beings that have arisen to exist and survive, and benefit those who seek existence. What are the four? Namely, coarse and fine morsel food, the second is touch, the third is mental thought, and the fourth is consciousness food. Thus it was declared. The Sutra says that after a body with harm manifests, it will be born into a world with harm. The basis of the discussion is in Shravasti. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks: There are four kinds of karma: there is black karma, the result of which is black; there is white karma, the result of which is white; there is black and white karma, the result of which is black and white; there is neither black nor white karma, the result of which is non-existent, which is the karma that turns to the exhaustion of all karmas. What is black karma, the result of which is black?
