Lying on the newly cracked ground, dwelling in thorn bushes, and even dwelling in water for three times, from fully using fire to fully using fire three times. Standing on one foot, facing the sun, following the sun, tormenting the body with many nearby sufferings, completely tormenting, dwelling in accordance with nearby sufferings. This refers to one who torments oneself, is in accordance with and possesses complete self-torment, does not torment others, and is in accordance with and possesses not completely tormenting others. As it is said, monks, regarding what is called "I" or "mine," from the king and the fully endowed sangha, the sixth chapter of the Sutra of the One with Matted Hair speaks as follows. Then, the Blessed One said to King Bimbisara of Magadha, the king with a formed mind: Great King, form is subject to arising and ceasing; it should be known as subject to arising and ceasing. Great King, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also subject to arising and ceasing; they should be known as subject to arising and ceasing. Great King, sons of good families, if they recognize that form is subject to arising and ceasing, they will fully understand form. If they fully recognize that feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are subject to arising and ceasing, they will fully understand consciousness. Great King, son of good family, if one fully understands form, one will not approach "mine," will not accept, will not dwell, and will not cling. Great King, son of good family, if one fully understands feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, one will not approach "I," will not accept, will not dwell, and will not cling. Great King, son of good family, if one does not approach form, does not accept, does not dwell, does not cling, and does not consider it as one's own, one will transcend immeasurable and countless sorrows, so I say. Great King, son of good family, if one does not approach feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, does not accept, does not dwell, does not cling, and does not consider it as one's own, one will transcend immeasurable and countless sorrows.
