Therefore, all those manifest speech that speculate on the future, and become views associated with the future end, do not exceed these sixty-two views, nor are they more numerous. The Tathagata fully understands them as they truly are, as previously stated. Monks, those ascetics or Brahmins who are confused by speculation on the past, by views associated with the past end, abide, fully abide, manifest attachment, fully manifest attachment, by speculation on the future, by views associated with speculation on the future, are confused, completely confused, abide, fully abide, manifest attachment, fully manifest attachment, all of them are caught in the net of the evil Mara, are under his control, are dominated, act as they please, are bound by the bonds of the evil Mara, and are not liberated from the power of Mara. Monks, for example, a fisherman or a skilled disciple of a fisherman casts a net with small meshes into the water and drags it. Monks, there, coarse creatures are confused, and those confused creatures enter the net, are under the control of the fisherman, are dominated by him, fall into his hands, and act as they please. This should be understood. Monks, similarly, any ascetic or Brahmin who speculates slightly on the past, from there, as before, until they are not completely liberated from the snare of Mara. Monks, those ascetics or Brahmins who speculate on the past, who speak of permanence, who manifest speech by declaring that the self and the world are permanent, such as these four things. Therefore, those ascetics and Brahmins become mentally disturbed, become ignorant, become negligent, become confused, and abide with the swaying of craving. This should be understood until, speculating on the future, those who speak of Nirvana in the visible Dharma, manifest speech by declaring Nirvana in the visible Dharma, such as these four things. Therefore, those ascetics or Brahmins become mentally disturbed, become ignorant, become negligent.

Change. One should recognize that they are completely deluded, abide with the agitation of existence, and remain in that state. From the notion of contemplating the end of the future, those who proclaim nirvana in this very life, proclaim it through direct perception, namely, with regard to these five things. Therefore, those ascetics or Brahmins will become mentally disturbed, become ignorant, become heedless, and one should recognize that they are completely deluded and abide with the agitation of existence. Monks, with regard to this, whatever ascetics or Brahmins contemplate the end of the past, those who speak of permanence, proclaim with direct perception, "I and the world are permanent," namely, with regard to these four things. These are dependent arising; if they are not dependent arising, then this is not a place and there is no opportunity. From those who say they attain nirvana in this very life, they proclaim, "They attain nirvana in this very life" through direct perception, namely, with regard to these five things. These are also dependent arising; if they say that these will not become dependent arising, then this is not a place and there is no opportunity. Monks, with regard to this, whatever ascetics or Brahmins contemplate the end of the past, those who speak of permanence, from "proclaiming with direct perception" up to "proclaiming with direct perception." Namely, with regard to these four things. These are also conditioned by contact; if not conditioned by contact, then feeling will arise elsewhere, which is impossible. From those who contemplate the end of the future, those who say they attain nirvana in this very life, proclaim, "They attain nirvana in this very life," namely, with regard to whichever five things. These are also born from the condition of contact; if not from the condition of contact, then feeling will arise elsewhere, which is impossible. Monks.

Birth, aging, sickness, and death, the Thus-Gone One has abandoned and completely knows, like a palm tree whose top has been cut off, uprooted from its roots, becoming of a nature not to be born again. When this Dharma discourse was spoken, this realm of the three-thousand great thousand worlds shook three times, shook greatly, shook completely greatly. Moved, moved greatly, moved completely greatly. Trembled, trembled greatly, trembled completely greatly. At that time, the venerable Ānanda was sitting beside the Blessed One, holding a fan and waving it. Then, the venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: Venerable Blessed One, what is the name of this Dharma discourse? How should it be held? Ānanda, therefore, this Dharma discourse should be held as the "Net of Causes." It should also be held as the "Net of Meanings," the "Net of Dharma," and the "Net of Brahmā." Therefore, "Net of Brahmā" is the technical term for this Dharma discourse. Having said this, those monks were exceedingly pleased and rejoiced in what the Blessed One had said. Intermediate summary: Permanent and one-sided, without cause, with end, likewise immortal, with perception and without perception, neither with nor without perception, annihilation, nirvāṇa and negligence, and true ignorance, arising from dependence and contact. As it is said, the naked ones are naked and without clothes, for this, the long proof and the Sutra of Non-arising, and from the summary verses of the second gate of the difficult commentary on the collection of the four sentences: One who benefits oneself, here. From there, these words are extracted: Afflicting oneself, completely afflicting oneself, conforming and corresponding to this, but not afflicting others, not completely afflicting others, who is the person who conforms and corresponds to this? For example, some ascetics live in a bad way, sitting naked as at the time of birth, wandering everywhere separated from clothes, accepting things with one hand, or not accepting alms with a stick in that hand, or holding a weapon in the hand, or holding a begging bowl in the hand, or holding a broom, living like bees between cities and non-cities.
