It should not be corresponding. Therefore, because it is said to correspond with happiness and so on, the Sautrāntikas consider only the correspondence in the Dharma Abhisamaya as anusaya (隨眠, latent tendencies), and what is not corresponding is not. If it is said like this, isn't it contradictory to the Sutra? The answer is, to abandon together with anusaya, this is not contradictory to that (statement), because it has a hidden meaning. What is the hidden meaning? Together with anusaya means connected with the following. Because from the nine types of afflictions, the later afflictions are the following of the earlier afflictions. Like this, although the eight types of afflictions to be abandoned by cultivation have been abandoned, the ninth type of following still exists. Therefore, it is considering that not all have been abandoned, that it is said to abandon together with anusaya, meaning connected with the following. Or, the word anusaya appearing in the Sutra is a near-obtained imputation to attainment, so there is no contradiction with the Sutra. For example, like fire is suffering, this is because the effect is imputed to the cause. Suffering is a distinction of feeling, and it is the cause, so it is also said that fire is suffering. Similarly, this is also because attainment is the cause of anusaya, so the word anusaya is used to express it. To abandon together with anusaya is to abandon together with attainment. Because it is a characteristic, the word anusaya is only used for afflictions such as desire, because those are subtle, and the two types of following are the characteristic of anusaya, and it is reasonable. What has a characteristic is a characteristic. For attainment, there is no such characteristic of anusaya, therefore for near-obtained imputation, what exists is the near-obtained imputator, so the word anusaya is said for attainment. Distinguishing from the Mahasanghika saints, the Sarvastivadins believe that anusaya is not corresponding, so they ask how is this known? The answer is: the mind is the cause of affliction. The explanation of this sentence is, because anusaya makes the mind afflicted...

Becoming afflicted, it is called. Non-associated ones, the mind will not become afflicted. The explanation of the word "because of obscuration" is that unprecedented virtue does not arise. The explanation of the word "because of opposition to virtue" is that even what has arisen will be completely lost. Therefore, it is said to be non-associated, because it is impossible for the mind to become afflicted, etc., as previously stated, but similar associated ones can understand all of this. However, if non-associated ones also transform in this way, that is, if the mind becomes afflicted, unprecedented virtue does not arise, and what has arisen is completely lost, then because these non-associated ones are always close, virtue will never become an object, because these subtle increases of non-associated ones never empty the continuum of sentient beings, and they also obscure virtue, so it is never possible for virtue to arise. This is unreasonable, called. The mind is the cause of affliction, called. These are unreasonable for showing subtle increases as non-associated, because those who say subtle increases are non-associated have not promised it. Only allowing what is done by affliction, called. It is saying the synonym of only allowing what is done by pervasive entanglement. Pervasive entanglement is not always close, so virtue becomes an object, thus, if affliction does not manifest, there is no contradiction in generating virtue. How the Sutra masters are, so it is good, this is explained extensively. According to the Sutra masters, although there is no contradiction with the Sutra that abandons with subtle increases, in order to dispel the fault that it becomes a subtle increase that is not associated because it is a subtle increase of desire for desire.

It is only for the sake of closely describing the nature. For the same reason, it is said that "afflictions are dormant" because they do not make their fruit, the mind, completely defiled by afflictions, so they are called "dormant." Because they are connected to the nature of the cause, they are called "subtle increase." "Awakened" means manifest, because they are able to produce their fruit, such as making the mind completely defiled by afflictions, so they are called "awakened." Because they make the mind lose its autonomy, they are called "completely entangled." Since dormancy and awakening have not yet been established, the question is asked in detail: What is dormancy? Regarding the word "unmanifest," because unmanifest is the nature of the seed, a distinction is made for the unmanifest: the seed nature of afflictions such as desire will never revert on the basis without the arising of an antidote. Because the self-nature of the seed nature has not been established, the question is asked back: What is the seed nature? The word "of the body" is explained in detail, here the body is the basis. Regarding the statement "born from afflictions, is the power to generate afflictions," when afflictions enter, they make the basis conform to the future arising of afflictions, and if there are other conditions in that basis that conforms to this, then afflictions will arise again. Therefore, the difference in the state of the basis, that is, the ability of afflictions, conforms to the arising of seed afflictions, which is called "born from afflictions, is the power to generate afflictions." Because it is a dharma that is observed like impermanence and fruitfulness, it is impossible to say that it is the same or different from the basis. For example, that which is born from the knowledge of experience, and the power to generate memory, is the same as that which is not another substance. In order to eliminate the doubt that the cause of generating memory is non-associated formation, which is another substance, other examples are given in detail, for example, the power to generate other rice fruits, born from the previously produced rice fruit of sprouts and so on, is not another substance.
