A Commentary on the Abhidharmakośa, Called Following the Characteristics Expanding and Increasing. A Commentary on the Abhidharmakośa, Called Following the Characteristics Expanding and Increasing. The moon of sacred speech, which satisfies all beings in the world, enlivened by the stream of nectar of compassion of the Protector of the World, illuminating all circles of existence, for those who deceive sinful beings by mixing the dust of faults with their own imagination, that is, for these various internal and external objects, such as fruits, stones, thorns, etc., whether they are without cause, or whether they have visible causes or invisible causes, it is thought to be a preconceived notion. Therefore, the sentient world and the container world are asked in detail. Because of the variety of causes, fruits and stones, etc., are also various. It is not without cause, even for the fruits that grow from the same tree, there are various causes and conditions, because the flowers, etc., are different. If the variety of fruits and stones, etc., are without cause, then because there is no special cause, everything will become without cause, which is also unreasonable. Why? Because when the roots, objects, seeds, milk, fire, smoke, impact, etc., exist and do not exist, there are differences in the production of wisdom, sprouts, yogurt, dyes, and when sounds, etc., exist and do not exist. The cause of this, semen and blood, etc., are not only visible, even if semen and blood, etc., are without difference, for brothers whose parents' first actions in the morning are the same, the differences in body, senses, absence of disease, strength, mind tamed, wisdom, patience, diligence, reliance, generosity, special intention, greed, hatred, arrogance, wealth, and decline are also visible. When engaging in various actions equally, some obtain the fruits of action, while others only become futile, this cannot be without an invisible cause. Some people have a preconceived notion that what is done is also

Indeed, it is so, because the statement "not by Īśvara, etc., because of sequence, etc." has prohibited it. The various sentient worlds are explained by the distinctions of realms, destinies, birthplaces, and measures and lifespans, etc. The various container worlds are explained by the distinctions of immeasurable mansions, continents, mountains, and circles of wind, etc. The statement "nothing is done by prior thought" is like an illusion created by a magician. If something has no cause, or has a visible cause, or is not done by prior thought, then who made it? Therefore, if asked, "Then what is it like?" it is said, "From the actions of sentient beings, various worlds arise." This states that, from the perspective of the four types of results, there is nothing that is not born from the results of actions. From where is this known? Because the power of actions is seen. The power of actions is manifestly apparent in producing desirable and undesirable results. For example, from the effort of a farmer, results such as plowing the field arise, and from going to another's wife, undesirable results such as killing arise, which are seen. Some, without effort, from birth to being bathed, see happiness, while others see suffering. Here, hearing of desirable and undesirable results, since there is prior action, obtaining happiness and suffering also becomes prior action. If it is said, "If it arises from action," etc., this is because it is thought that the action that is the result of the inner body is powerful. Those bodies and speech that have become like wounds from actions, and the enjoyments that are their remedies, which are like joys, are of such a nature. Furthermore, whose are those actions? Therefore, it is said, "of those who act as guides for sentient beings," which is to say, those who do good and non-virtue.

It is not possible to enjoy something like unhappiness. Therefore, it is appropriate to say here "only such actions," because it is the result of common and uncommon actions. By the power of the virtuous actions of all sentient beings, lotuses and blue lotuses, etc., are born; by the power of impure actions, poison and thorns, etc., are born. The results of the actions of sentient beings, which are determined individually, are the bodies of sentient beings, and those are also produced by the mind. That is so, because bodies and enjoyments like happiness are born to those who do not produce many gods. The so-called "mind and what is done by it" is a brief presentation of all actions. What indicates that is "the action of mind and thought," meaning "it will become like this and that," or "it should be made like this and that." What is said as "thought" in the sutra is said here in the treatise as "done by the mind," meaning "initiated by the mind." The so-called "is three" is because the action done by the mind is divided into two types. The so-called "everything depends on the body" is because it enters depending on the body. In that case, the action that depends on the body is the action of the body, then the actions of speech and mind would also become the action of the body. The only action that becomes speech is because the action of the nature of speech is the action of speech, so it is completely pure. The two actions of body and mind, because they are not the nature of body and mind, those two will not become actions. If it is said that initiation is action, like the action of mind, the two actions of body and speech are also completely controlled by the mind, so it is of the mind, and it will become the only action of the mind. The so-called "by three causes in order," the action of the body is the dependent action, that is, although it is initiated by the mind, it is because it depends on the body. The action of speech is the action of nature, because that is the nature of speech. The action of mind is the action of initiation, because that is initiated by the mind, and from that
